#Rivet Rifle incorrect downward angle limit

The visual indicator for traverse angle, as well as the actual model of the weapon, suggests that rivet rifles should be able to point quite far downward, about 15ish degrees? In practice however, they are unable to aim anywhere near as far down as they should be, more like 5 degrees or so.

This is pretty debilitating for rivet bots with guns mounted on both the top and bottom (or side mounts), as a target even a little under the horizontal plane of the weapon can't be fired at.

Hard to get good pics of but I tried.

It looks like it only aims as far down as is possible without clipping?

inner knot
#

Nevermind, it stops well before that

#

and it should be able to angle downward around 13°

long wedge
#

Yeah, I think it only actually goes down like 5ish currently.

bumping this one because its annoying.

#

terrible on front mounts on robots, makes it so weird

#

you just cant shoot forward

#

front mounts already have rotation issues where guns need to take extra rotation to reach firing angles as you adjust aim.
(rotate base, adjust angle if in a previous deadzone) compared to just a regular mounts turn slightly, adjust angle.

Very fair

#

Should be relatively easy fix

long wedge
#

Much appreciated

long wedge
#

Quick bump as this is still an issue.

glossy fossil

Done

Thank you for bumping :)

whole sedge
#

lovely ngl

#

this one been a old one

#

hate mentioning but i feel its a issue for rail too.

#

Might not need a fix on rail tho.

glossy fossil
#

I'll have a look

#

Ah yeah it was near the same as rivet

#

I'll give it a bit more leeway

whole sedge
#

much much appreciated

glossy fossil
#

Nova was even worse than rivet

#

That too will get a bit more

long wedge
#

ah good yeah, nova could probably use it

whole sedge
#

did not notice nova had it bad but makes sense

glossy fossil
#

These values were from more of the start of development, since I was really wanting to not make things clip

#

But you really don't notice during gameplay

long wedge
#

I'm all for making things not clip, only reason I mentioned it with rivet specifically is because the actual limit was way before the physical clipping limit

glossy fossil
#

Yeah very fair

#

Probably just a leftover since it was a copy from the ELC

long wedge
#

I guess with nova now that I look at it the model doesn't permit much downward angle without clipping

#

model could be tweaked a little though; there's enough space at the bottom of the turret to add a little bit of a cutout

glossy fossil
#

The downwards angles are limited because we didn't want stilts on weapons

#

They looked awkward

long wedge
#

yeah makes sense

#

I didn't love RC's guns on sticks

glossy fossil
#

They always looked so stuck on

#

But I don't mind a little clipping to improve gameplay

long wedge
#

I think with nova you could just add a little cutout like this

#

so it can angle down without clipping much

#

I think it's the only gun which doesn't visually appear to have the ability to angle down

glossy fossil
#

Ahhhh yeah you're right

#

Never actually noticed that

long wedge
#

eh actually flux weaver as well but that one is already weird and clippy lol

whole sedge
#

Just double checking cuz i've gotten a bit confused, the aiming down is a QoL, the actual issue was aiming upwards right?

glossy fossil
#

Yeah flux is a mess

#

I gave them some more up angle too

long wedge
#

I like the look of flux tbh but yeah mechanically it doesn't make a lot of sense

whole sedge
#

cheers

glossy fossil
#

But yeah you're right it was 2 different things lol

glossy fossil
long wedge
#

yea rivet upward angle was also pretty limited, didn't notice it as much since I don't use front mounts but I tried it after pmuz mentioned it

glossy fossil
#

I janked them to have a base

long wedge
#

ahh yeah makes sense

glossy fossil
#

Set the max up angle from 8 to 3

#

To give you an idea

long wedge
#

hmm you could maybe separate it like this

#

would take some work but the actual firing piece could be articulated independent of the main circular section

glossy fossil
#

Could work honestly

#

Would need to jank the model a bit but it might be better than what we currently have

long wedge
#

it's kinda nice that the cylinder moves with the barrel but don't think there is a good way to preserve that without jank so oh well

glossy fossil
#

I'm currently imagining this but the barrel can rotate all the way over to the other side

long wedge
#

hmm although even with them separated there isn't much room for downwards traverse...

glossy fossil
#

Would make it kinda unique

long wedge
#

oh yeah that could be neat

#

yea not against that at all

glossy fossil
#

I'll make a mental note of it

#

So many things I really want to add still like spoilers and airbrakes mentioned

#

Pan is getting good at adding things

#

I'm not quite there yet though

long wedge
#

Yea no rush, take your time, you guys do good work!
