I just had this idea randomly today and I thought I'd share it.
Introducing: Holoframe Blocks! (pronounced hollow-frame 😛 )
They're basically just very flimsy frames that disguise themselves as other blocks with hologram technology. When you're building you'd be able to easily tell them apart from other blocks, but in battle their holoprojectors activate and then they're visually indistinguishable from real blocks.
I got no clue if this would work or how balanced or useful they'd be or anything.
