#Not a fan of new rivet at all.

Interesting ideas, but ultimately the changes pretty much removed everything that made me enjoy the weapon in the first place.

Hitscan + reduced accuracy means long range fire becomes less about skill and more just "point directly at target and hope for good RNG" which I find distinctly unsatisfying both when using the weapon and when being shot at by it.

Semi-auto mode's limited fire rate means if you're trying to click at a rate about equal to the weapon's fire rate, there's a good chance you click slightly too early and the weapon just doesn't fire, so you lose a full cycle.

Transition between semi-auto fire and full-auto feels clunky and unresponsive, it almost turns into a different weapon after holding down the trigger for a while which is just... weird? Being able to swap into super rapid fire mode but also not being able to do it immediately when you want it just doesn't feel good at all to me. I did see you added an indicator showing the swapover between semi-auto and full-auto fire, which is definitely nice to have but doesn't really make it feel any less awkward to use.

Honestly, I don't think rivet needs full-auto capability at all and I'd look toward balancing it around being a pure semi-auto weapon instead, with maybe with greater accuracy and a bit less velocity than the previous version.

I do like the Garand ping on mag empty though.

Yeah I'm also pretty negative on this, the rework feels quite clunky and the nerf seems heavy-handed and unnecessary

#

The accuracy got nerfed even though it kind of already got bullied by air that was further than 100m away in the first place, and the removal of the reload and the ability to mag dump over and over is a shame, and leaves it with this very awkward downtime

#

+hitscan vs actually leading shots isn't as interesting

It's in a weird middleground. Firing at air targets with your crosshair directly over them and missing in spite of it being hitscan feels dissatisfying.
Not as bad as it would feel to have a Gauss shot miss due to RNG, but still a lot worse than missing with ELC due to the large amount of bloom not allowing an accurate follow-up shot.
I'd rather have it be hyper-accurate and leave the hitscan stuff to Gauss and ELC. (Is Gauss hitscan?)

As an alternative for the mag dump, maybe make it charge individual shots up when you hold it down, making it accurate with hitscan in return for much lower DPS, giving it better mid-long range functionality. Balancing factors could be consumption of multiple rivets per charged shot, like the Storm PSR in Black Ops 2 and charge-up time.

A few notes on the hitscan bit.

Rivets were meant to be hitscan when I first drafted up the idea. An error in communication made them projectile weapons in first iteration, and we decided to work with it since we were wanting to get 1.2 out the door in a reasonable time. So we buffed the velocity of them. Then we did it again, and again, and with the gravity changes, again to the point where they were effectively hitscan in most engagements except long ranges and air interactions. We decided to make them officially hitscan to

  1. save on resources when calculating hits
  2. bring them back to the more intended Gauss / ELC hybrid
  3. Free up the idea of a more direct fire projectile weapon for something else

Since aiming a projectile weapon that isn't a Nova Salvo IS a cool skill we want to have in the game (just not indented for Rivet), we've got discussions behind the scenes for a replacement

#

We'll still be tweaking the timing, mechanics, and stats of them though

Yeah the hitscan is whatever really, it was quite fast anyhow

#

I do think the old mechanic was a lot more fun personally, the only thing i would add is a way to dump them at max speed without using a macro/giving yourself carpal tunnel. the reload made it a lot more engaging

Just adding my voice into the mix, not a fan of the new feel.

Ill be honest the projectile speed and pace was very satisfying to me

#

It was a projectile weapon, with bullet drop that isnt terrible against air or range
