#How can I start modding Oblivion in 2024?
1 messages · Page 2 of 1
OOOOO i know
my defacto house
if that's not your bag, try this
Thanks chief
I will check them out later, i was gonna put some hours this morning into Oblivion, but life hits and responsibilities are always moved up on my list of things I do for the day.
Someone on reddit dm'd me saying " if you're looking for the best boob physics, i recommend....." And i could not stop laughing 💀
People really play Oblivion for body mods? OBLIVION?!??

im not playing the game for bodymods per se, but some eyecandy is always welcome kekw
Nothing wrong with playing the game with some skimpy armor, but at the same time id like to survive a dagger swing and not die from being nude or wearing terrible stat armor
kekw
thats why i make custom versions of certain armors with higher stats so i can have a pretty character in a skimpy armor that can take a swing or 12
for instance, i have a pretty skimpy and "nice" looking replacer for Golden Saint armor that made a copy of, changed it to be Light Armor instead of Heavy and just raised the armor value a bit and made it lighter overall so i got some revealing armor with decent stats. if i want to go bit nuts, i can put any enchantment on it i want and if i want to be really silly, make it have insane armorvalue(which is basically cheating)
Yeah, i would play skyrim if i wanted to tweak anything beyond unfathomable comprehension
why play skyrim when all the same tweaks can be done in oblivion(+ oblivion has stuff skyrim doesnt)
Oblivion is too stiff to my liking and the camera being set to seeing your characters back all the time isnt for me when it comes to wanting to see their looks from time to time
You can hold the button to switch between 1st & 3rd person perspective while being in 3rd person perspective and move the mouse to rotate the camera and look at your character from any angle
Thats if you stop entirely. With weapon ready or not. When i move I wanted to be able to look around my surroundings without the whole figure moving with the camera. I know I'm asking a lot, but im not tripping
It is what it is
that is one of the reasons i got NorthernUI and camera set to Free Cam so i can keep my character running in one direction while looking at another
God dang it , Demon you have once again swayed my mind
kekw
Question 1, how do i make a saved copy of the game in case i mess it up
Question 2, how would i implement NorthernUi manually
Question 3, how would I erase all previous traces of the previous data from the ui i currently have installed
Feel free to respond slowly, im currently doing something else

-
Copy the whole Oblivion folder, you can paste it to your steamapps/common folder so you have Oblivion and Oblivion - Copy(latter is the "backup")
-
like any other mod installed manually
-
open the zip of darnui, delete every file in your Textures/Meshes folders that you see in the zip
God forbid i know what to read when looking for that ui's files
thats why you open the zip so you got something to refer to
Ah, makes sense
what ever files you see in the zip, you remove from the gamefolders
Do you know where i can get the original ini text for Oblivion?
Ima need to re-input the OG text it had before I adjust it
game crashed when i tried continuing
ima still need this
idk how to change the ini font with bethini, all it did was show me DarN ini stuff which i erased
Just delete the existing one, the game generates a new one automatically
Ini font? Tf you talking about?
Documents > Oblivion.ini
Had me scroll down to font, i deleted the old font and put down the Normal font the modding page had me copy and paste
Yee
Documents>my games>oblivion
Also idk if i did the installation correctly, but i dropped the mod into my data folder, and i read the folders, and placed each in their appropriate spot

Was that the way to go?
As long as it asked to replace, its correct
Believe it or not there wasn't anything it replaced which concerned me
When you delete the oblivion.ini, run game once, close it and redo your settings with beth ini
Also this, plus game crashing, im thinking it might be the old ini font thats causing it
Will check rn
Considering the game takes like 4gb as vanilla, redownloading the game and reinstalling your mods shouldnt be too hard nor take that long(incase you somehow managed to mess it up, + your saves are in a different location so those arent lost either)
But this time you just yeet northernui in there instead of darnui(and you dont need to do any file diddlery with NUI so i think its even easier than darn by a lot)
And your modlist for sure is smaller than mine so that makes it even easier if reinstalling the game becomes the only option
Game supposed to be white screened with no audio?
Okay im dumb
Theres audio
menu screen is white
is that the ai?
UI
no, something is deffo messed up
i'd reinstall the game just in case
the main menu should have the usual background vid instead of being white and your inventory shouldnt look like that
this is how it should look(i got a different background vid and oblivion theme on NUI so it looks bit different from the default)

Yeahhh ill delete it and start from square one again tonight
You have a guide on how to delete everything?;
Man
Modding
delete the whole Oblivion folder, then in steam use the verify thing and it will redl the game
then you just yeet mods in there like you have done earlier
yes
should go much smoother now
and i presume you got all the mods you had in some folder so you dont have to re download everything
well, thats your f'up, i did say to have the mods somewhere incase this(or something similar) happens kekw
tho in nexus you do have a mod dl history thing so finding all the mods should go quickly
True
the time is nigh
time to scroll from the top and start from square one
@junior gyro before i install any texture mods, you recommend any specific ones?
Okay
Oblivion wont run

Not gonna lie im very close to giving up
Its been a week long debugging session
Been having only a few hours to do things, i work and have college
Nevermind
Had to use LOOT
did the whole HGEC convo disappear??
cant seem to find the files i specifically dragged and dropped
Its all working so far
Turns out i actually need OBMM to install the QTP3
Ah, just had to browse and find the non OMOD version
Everything has been reinstalled and working optimal
Just northern UI being the only mod i have yet to install
you dont actually need obmm for anything, i got qtp and it works fine(and i do my modding manually)
as long as you got SkyBSA, texturemods will work
care to elaborate a bit on that?
feeling too lazy to read through all the files again for the 10th time
its literally a drag&drop in the simplest terms
readme's are good to have, but not something you absolutely have to read. most of the mods just require a bit of common sense to be installed
yeah i read all the readmes in every mod i reinstalled today
thats how i got everything to work
i read only one readme out of the 50 or so mods i have, cuz the folder structure was bit odd
but northernUI was the mod that had me doing everything again
so im not trying to do another debugging session
that was only because you had darnui in the game
now you dont have it so i dont see why you cannot just manually install it
i just drag&drop the folders to data and it works right away
in short, i think your approach to modding is the thing that either makes it hard for you or sways you off from installing something that is as easy to install as skybsa
sometimes things go wrong, even if you follow a readme
its just part of the experience
but the good part regarding oblivion modding is that the game is just a 4gb download so redoing the install is much easier and quicker than on some other games
for instance, Fallout4 is 37gb without the hd textures so redoing that is a pain compared to oblivion just due to the size of the game and the possible time spent just downloading it
now your modlist should be ready for some cyrodiil shenanigans
yea, looks good to me
why does yours have space
and stars
was about to mention that
i got a different menu background(can be found in nexus)
i can link you the page
its actually smoke and embers
but its done now and you get to enjoy the game now
Modding is such a pain'
it is, but its rewarding when everything works and you get to just play the game
yeah
i've spent +100h just modding oblivion and only now started to properly play it as my modlist is ready and my tweaks are done
aside from that, i made sure every file was clean
deleted bloat files, made sure i saved the zipped variants in a special oblivion folder
out of that 195h, 120 has been just fiddling and tweaking mods
i do got plenty mor ehours on a pirated copy, but a legit one is so much better
and i got countless hours on x360 version
😂
i was hoping that the Dragons dogma modding community was a bit more "exciting"
but its all just visuals, textures, and combat tweaks
yee
there are no
armors and weapons mods
to stylize my arison, which kind of sucks since most armors imo are unappealing
on top of terrible stats to equipment
yea, that kinda takes some of the appeal out of the game
while tes games have almost anything you can think of
unfortunate
is it becasue capcom never released a modding tool kit? and it has to be online?
I wonder how many poor pc souls have seen my pawn where no armor since I have a mod that lets me use any vocation related armor on any vocation lmao

@junior gyro

Issues with facial features not moving on an npc?
When they're speaking
Hmm 🤔
I have not encountered that before
Is it every npc or occasional?
Could you list the mods you have installed
Just the same mods and only 1 armor mod that adds an armor set and body mesh that makes the armor look good, aside from that its not a mod that affects npcs on a global scale
Basically that golden elf set i showed the other day
is it a replacer or a separate set?
Separate set
Quite literally adds two armor sets and doesn't touch anything else
.esp file
It might have something in the esp itself that messes up some mod loading before it
To an extent, its not uncommon that some mod would include some unnecessary edits and i have a hunch that could be the case in this situation
I dunno about oblivion but with Skyrim load orders I don’t use LOOT bc it’s too general, I typically use ssedit to see which mods are overwriting which and using that info I organise my load order
X
The overhaul for all faces
Said that issue might occur
OCO 2?
hmm, odd if oco affects the facial animations, havent had that occur on my game. try to reinstalloco to see if that would alleviate the issue
for Oblivion, its good to use LOOT whenever you add a mod. and you can specify if the mod HAS to load after some other mod etc
yee, journal has all the info you need
Any good armor mods?
