I recently got into playing modded new vegas and im having graphical issues with the game. Theres a lot of pop in from plants and mountains have glitched textures. I looked into it and I think it has something to do with Z-fighting. How can I fix this.

These are the mods installed:

Direct Install:
NVSE 6.3.5b
4GB Patcher

Vortex Mods:

Do you have other mods installed?

Well, you're missing a lot of essential mods. But before we get there, do you have the game installed in Program Files or Program Files (x86)?

#

This is where I have my game instaleld for example.

#

You should ABSOLUTELY NOT install a game you plan to mod in Program Files or Program Files (x86), so if you have your game installed there,m then you need to relocate it.

You need to enable Vortex Archive Invalidation as well.

#
  1. Go to your "Dashboard" tab and enable "Archive Invalidation" listed under "Let's get you set up". This should now read "Archive invalidation Yes".
  2. Go to your "Mods" tab and enable "Vortex Archive Invalidation".
(If you do not see "Vortex Archive Invalidation", then go into the "Settings" tab and open the "Workarounds" tab at the top. Enable "BSA Redirection".)

I have no idea how that's possible.

#

What version of the game do you have? Is it Steam? or GOG? or Epic Games?

I don't understand how that can happen. That's required for various textures to show properly.

#

I would honestly suggest you uninstall the game, delete all folders associated with the game and start from scratch. If you do that then I can walk you through literally everything.

#

But before you do that, let me know if that's what you're going to do and I can tell you some steps to take.

onyx mulch
#

yeah ill do that

thorny plume
#

Ok, go to your Vortex and go to your Profiles tab.

onyx mulch
#

how can I do a clean uninstall do I delete all the files and uninstall

thorny plume
#

Create a new Vortex profile. Name it anything you want. Select and enable the new profile.

#

On that new profile you should have no mods active.

Ok, now go to your "Plugins" tab. Enable all of the base game plugins.

#

You own all DLCs right?

onyx mulch
#

yep

onyx mulch

You just click Enable.

So enable all of the base game plugins.

Now, open Steam and uninstall the game.

onyx mulch
#

do I have to do anything to nvse and the 4gb patcher

thorny plume
#

Nope.

#

After you uninstall the game using Steam, then delete the following folders (there are THREE folders you need to delete):

  1. Navigate to Documents -> My Games -> "FalloutNV". Delete this folder.
  2. Navigate to Steam -> steamapps -> common -> "Fallout New Vegas". Delete this folder as well.
  3. Press the "Windows key + R". Type "appdata" and press "Enter". Navigate to Local -> "FalloutNV". Delete this folder too.
#

Once you uninstall the game and you delete all 3 of those folders, then you will have completely removed the game from your PC (except for your mods).

thorny plume
#

Ok, now reinstall the game. Make sure you DO NOT install it inside of Program Files or Program Files (x86).

#

I also recommend Vortex to be installed on the same drive as your game.

#

Then when the game installs let me know when it completes.

onyx mulch
thorny plume
#

Well, you have the folder Program Files and Program Files (x86) on your C: Drive.

#

The game absolutely 100% cannot be installed ANYWHERE within those two folders.

#

If you do, then you can't mod your game. It's basically impossible.

#

So, again. For example, this is where I have my game installed:

#

You do not see Program Files written anywhere in that install path.

#

This is a proper install.

#

Optimally I would recommend you have the Steam program not installed anywhere within Program Files or Program Files (x86).

#

That is not a hard requirement, but it is best in the long-term.

onyx mulch
#

also its installe

d

thorny plume
#

But the game cannot be.

onyx mulch
#

whats next

thorny plume
#

Vortex and the game should be on the same drive.

#

Now install the game.

#

Again, as long as it's not Program Files.

onyx mulch
#

does it work?

thorny plume
#

It can work, but I strongly do not recommend it.

#

I recommend you install FNV on your C: Drive with your Vortex.

#

The reason being is because you will not be able to use the Hardlink Deployment method.

#

Hardlink deployment is the optimal deployment method for Vortex, which I believe requires the game to be installed on the same drive as Vortex.

#

Otherwise you will be using an experimental deployment feature that should work, but it is not nearly as reliable.

#

So in short, if you install the game on the same drive as Vortex, then the mods will more likely function as intended.

onyx mulch
#

ok let me reinstall

onyx mulch
thorny plume
#

You can. But if you can install FNV on your C: Drive, then that will be easier.

onyx mulch
#

ok ill install new vegas in teh c drive

thorny plume
#

It's easier to relocate the game than Vortex.
