when arcana got reworked last year the roles got reversed, Empress used to be the spec where you gen heaps of cards and actually had to think about which skill order you used depending on the card combo you got - now its just spam to stay in manaless and use cards as they come unless you get star in which case you just hold it for when boss flies away or if u lost manaless

Emperor is currently one of if not the strongest specs in the game albeit hard to play especially in places like kayangel where bosses have schizophrenia and love to move out of your shit every 2 seconds, empress however overtakes it with elixirs but only marginally. Arcana is in the rare spot where both its specs are god tier, so if its performance you want you cant really go wrong, just pick whats more fun

the reworked added like 3-4 cards or something to emperor, pushed it from being a meme spec to god tier but it took a while for people to catch on

that was alongside tripod/skill reworks too obvs, the nerfed card gen tripods is what turned empress from a technical class into a spammy one

i cant speak for emperor on this but in empress its pretty important, lvl 7 gems work fine but lvl 9 cd's+ is when they start to break the game. Tripods on your red skills in particular are super important since all ur damage comes from 3 skills essentially which all also run crit tripods so early on its pretty worth to run adren 3 over cd until uve maxed out the 3 crit tripods on those. The other important part for empress are levels, since ruin damage scales at lvl 55 and 60
