I use "crop and resize" and I usually do 512x768 or use the original dimensions from the image. Sometimes I'll put the pics through a upscaler for better quality also.

get a vae, then place it in .../models/VAE. Then in the webui, go to settings -> stable diffusion -> select vae in dropdown -> save settings

anything4 has its own vae likely available where you got the model

but i also heard some good things about this one https://huggingface.co/stabilityai/sd-vae-ft-mse-original/blob/main/vae-ft-mse-840000-ema-pruned.safetensors

idk what vae is in technical terms, but it does help make pictures vibrant and less saturated, and also solve your weird spot issue

oh lmao i do know what a vae is. i thought a sd vae was something different from a ml vae

so in technical terms, a vae takes in input, compresses it into a smaller "latent space" and then tries to recreate the input

the idea is that since the latent space is smaller than the input, it forces the vae to learn the important stuff about the input

Edit: then we can use the latent to recreation part to generate new images by giving it completely new latent data

Edit 2: ignore edit 1. that's what i used it for, but sd is different. online sources say that vae is used to essentially resize images to make training MUCH quicker. the downside is a bit of inaccuracy, but better vae means more accuracy

not sure how this translates to more vibrant pictures or no spots though

idk if you care or not lol, but i made a mistake in my explanation. pca is a linear transformation, but encoders are nonlinear (which is much better for understanding complex images). Plus, encoders also support regularization techniques that allow the latent space to be squished together instead of sometimes separated like pca (which gives consistently better results)

If you open them in browser, filename 0000 is 0.5, 0001 is 0.45, 0002 is 0.4 and 0003 is 0.35
