Any gear you've equipped is "stored" in your #1 preset. Even if you've unequipped it. Clicking the 2nd tab and then switching back to the 1st tab will reset the preset and let you dismantle a piece you had equipped prior.

Sounds like you used the power pass. You should have been given a full set of 960 gear and accessories to slap on. From there, just start doing your dailies and story progression!

You can read 20 books of Surge, use Surge, then read another 20 books later for Remaining and swap to Remaining if you want

You can of course just read 15 of Surge, change your mind, and swap to Remaining

It's a flexible system, no need to fully commit to 1 and can swap half way (tho obviously not recommended cuz you "wasted" books)

Well the nodes you get from the booster is different.

Green gives 3. Which alone isn't enough to get Level 1 of your engraving, which requires 5.
You can double Green booster node for 6 total, so that gives Level 1.

Blue gives 6. Which alone is enough to get Level 1, which requires 5.
You can double up for 12, which gives Level 2, which requires 10 nodes.

Purple gives 9.
Double up for 18, which gives Level 3, which require 15 nodes

You just gotta read 20 green books, 20 blue books, and 20 purple books. Can buy on auction, get via in game rewards and quests

See below how Green Deathblow gives me +3, I use 2 Booster nodes so it gives 6 in total. For Level 1

Another example, my Esoteric Flurry is at Epic, so it gives +9.

If I double equip it, it gives me 9 node * 2 = 18 nodes, hence Level 3.

So that is bonus of leveling up Engravings in the "Booster" Slot.

It'll be easier to understand once you slowly get used to it, engravings are weirdly complex
