Currently yes, the gold exchange rates and market prices work out such that for basically everything in Mari's shop (possibly actually everything?) if you have that material unbound you would gain gold by selling that amount of materials, buying crystals with the gold, and then buying the items from Mari's shop.

if the pace of your progression is gated by the amount of materials in Mari's shop it will take you a month to get from 1302 -> 1340 using only the mats available if you sell everything you obtain

I don't think most people are buying from Mari shop, but they probably should. If everyone starts doing so though the price of crystals will shoot up and price of materials will drop, so it only is a viable strat for every material while a large number of players aren't making use of it.

Try paladin to 30 maybe you like it more. At 30 you can go to Trixion and try endgame builds. No you don't lose roster bound stuff just character bound things. That's why it's recommend to not open all the boxes you get until you need them. Things often become character bound when you take them out of boxes.
