20 green books means you can slot that engraving into your engraving slot and get +3 points towards that Engraving, 20 blue books means that increases to +6, 20 purple books increases that to +9 and so on. You see the engraving slots just below your weapon in your Character Window (P) right? Thats where you slot those in.

You're losing ship durability which could kill your ship in hazardous waters and you'd have to run on back to a port to repair (you can't interact with things with a broken ship). Overall it isn't worth it compared to just proccing the extra fast sailing while auto sailing with the Hermida skin. Also Orca is still faster in general anyway if speed is what you're aiming for.

Arguably yes as having no high means your stagger is comparatively worthless compared to those other classes I mentioned which have Mid, Mid-high and High stagger skills

I think that stagger skills deal a % of their dealt damage specifically to their stagger bar. Classes that are supposed to do more, like Scrapper and Gunlancer have higher scaling for each step. I don't know values though.
