It will upgrade the engraving item you can equip to give +6 to that specific engraving. The bonus you get is based on the total + to that skill from the equipable engraving items and any jewelry you have. Check the engraving tab on your character profile

listen to me. a green engraving book after you use 20 time would unlock the green version of an engraving. you dont need to use accessory. you can get +3 +3 from your two engraving socket. that would give you a lv 1 version of that engraving. higher rarity book, give you that engraving but better. +3/+6/+9/+12. so if you put it into the engraving socket, it would give more node

if you mean it went away but it didn't give you the raid completed animation, then it just moved to another location on the map. you gotta look for it - it may do it a few times, or none at all. you will know if you killed it if you get the cutscene of it dying
