engravings have unique effects. for every 5 points of one engraving you have, you get 1 level. there is no in between level, so 9 points is equivalent to 5 points, etc. jewelry (at end game), engraving slots, and ability stone all contribute to engraving slots

higher tier jewelry will give more engraving points per piece, along with higher rarity stones and with higher level engraving books. those books you read are strictly for your engraving slots on your character profile. uncommon = 3pts, rare = 6, epic = 9, legendary = 12. you can equip two engravings to your engraving slots (including duplicates of the same engraving). you need 20 books of a rarity to level up to the next rarity
