Engraving books can be obtained various ways through many various NPC exchanges, event shops & event handouts
The Arkesia Tour will have you complete a number of simple quests and reward you with a large amount of horizontal & collectable completion including more skill points & addition skill runes to help your build.
If a Mokoko Express is ongoing, activate it from an icon beside your minimap. It will provide free items to help with the process above as well as provide things like honing support to make progression easer. There is only 1 Mokoko Express per region so choose your character carefully!

Those are used for cutting gems for red cores, which are more impactful than blues.

I've got 2 leg core selectors and 1 relic core selector, but I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to go about getting the grid up and running -- specifically, how should I go about trying to cut astrogems to get enough points to get my cores up and running (and should I wait on using selectors to get tries in at act 4 NM and see if I luck into the right core drops)
