yes and no, i would say to restart in february when you do the msq and it will give you the appropriate gear so you dont need to bother with honing and crafting the fusion mats

it's very overwhelming and hard to get past it in any game that does express events but if you can just force yourself to take what you can in while at least doing your dailies youre good.
Can even make a second character to level if you really wanted to
But collecting mats from dailies and such is a huge benefit. Since it's sort of "time gated"
also with that being said like any other video game/hobby do what you think is right. there is no real rush as long as you use the pass before it expires.

Story is "quick" but honing to certain ilvls is PAIN, then after u get to T3 new material is here FUSION stones u either buy them or craft
then u gotta get Valtan/Vykas gear (2 weeks), then Brel (2-3 weeks) and then Akkan (3 weeks min) then Honing with gold (+- 250 to 300K gold) to get u to 1620 (here u transfer gear to T4 Relic to get u to 1640) all that in 2-3 months

in february u will be able to just do Story and get to 1585 ilvl after all story u done to get u to South Kurzan -> Honing with silver (still with fusions so it still takes time) to 1620
