gunlancer is one of the tankier classes in the game, I'm also pretty sure that they're a front attk class which means you'll ideally wanting to be hitting the boss from the front
they've got good synergy and stagger/destruction
pretty sure they also have a taunt, so if you're good you can taunt the boss at really good moments to give your team an easier time hitting the boss
IMO its the closest thing to a "tank" that the game has

if you're powerpassing the character you should use "Alt + E" for mass preset
you can get gear for both dps and support option from the powerpass menu near your minimap after you've powerpassed and are in town
then set it up so you can easily swap between the 2 with Alt E
