People can eat all sorts of attacks after Thar clash, do no damage, then you get to 50% meter and have to use Ephernia (if enough sidereal meter) or use a Flame Grenade at one of the edges.
That's why I said they have no relevance because Thar clash can occur, as well as having to use Ephernia. Or if no side meter, use a flame grenade at the edge.
With the power creep of T4 though, you almost never see Ephernia being used because the boss gets deleted in 1 second.

You cannot use Thar for clash multiple times. You use it for the top snake for the 1st clash. you shouldn't need to use Ephernia later on unless the boss hits 50% meter (boss hitting 50% meter usually occurs due to a lot of people tanking attacks that generate meter and not pushing DPS fast enough).

When you do big echidna clash there is a stagger buff everyone gets that lasts like 16 or so seconds.
These days you can just cast thar whenever unless your doing echidna on item level, like 1630/1640.

The way the 50% gauge mechanic is intended to be done is using a flame skill or flame grenade on one of the edges of the map that has a red line on it.
Then you dodge the snakes as they pass by.
But this is only done if there isn't enough sidereal meter available for Ephernia.

The damage boost comes from the fact that the snakes die.
Thar just helps with that by deleting 63 bars from the top snake.
Sidereals are there just for assistance. The technical reason why you get a damage boost is by the snakes dying. Both top and bottom.
