And it was a way to help me catch up to get all the event toys, but they seemed to have removed that for no reason this week

Yes, it's just a passive buff at the cost of life energy
It is generally garbage because it just makes your life energy less efficient
The tryhard thing to do is to activate dog before minigame
And then song to stronghold to cancel it
So you only get the buff for minigame to get more blue relics on the big roll
