They don't get the gold, if you win gold from that island then you can just mail their share

so, there are only a few types of armor, when you're starting out the game will progressively give you better gear, whatever has a higher item level, equip it, toss the rest, then at a certain point you will be using 1 set for a long time, and you will be upgrading that set (+1, +2, +5, +10 etc)
you won't be going about crafting armors until way later on
just equip whatever for now has a higher item level
