Well there are no tanks in this game so you're not really supposed to just eat damage from a good number of boss patterns.

You avoid as many as possible, also usually very specific ones

Do not delete cards from your inventory, though. You can store cards away elsewhere if you run out of space until you get more space, but otherwise you do still want to be using them when you get them. Also keep in mind you can convert gold into blue crystals.
