The most you'd do is just use Gear Conversion system after you get Relic gear to just use Betrayal or Dominion set for Chaos Dungeons

For some reason I just can't get Honing Transfer to work. It only accepts the smaller level of the items on the Left ( the transfer to box ) and then the higher level item appears on the right side to select from.

Transferred a High to a Low and it said it worked. But it raised the lower one which magically vanished permanently. Yes I had 2 identical copies of the higher level. And the old multi-honed lower one to start with. - BTW this was the second game event that gave me nice nifty armor + weapon in 2 identical sets. Level 300 ( 320? ) and 600

Read the Internet very slowly about how to do this. So added one shard of honing to the item to be raised - put it in the left, nothing was available in the right. Putting the un-micro honed one in the left gave no options again.

Just cannot transfer the unsalvagable items to the new items, can't thransfer the second copy of the new items to the new items even when one honing shard was applied.

Gear Transfering allows you to transfer the enhancement level of a piece of gear into an unhoned (aka not upgraded at all) piece of gear.

So for instance, in T3 you might take your +8 blue set you got from earlier Chaos Dungeons and transfer it into a +0 purple piece of gear you then acquired from a later Chaos Dungeon.

That would make the purple piece now +8 and the blue piece would be consumed/destroyed in the process.

The way you are explaining things is not clear.

Idk if this helps, but the main point of gear transfer:

• You have gear at X-tier. It's at honing level15 or whatever.
• You get a piece of new gear in a higher tier.
• You feed the lower tier into the higher tier. The lower-tier (higher honing lvl) gear gets "eaten." The higher-tier (initally lower honing lvl) gear becomes stronger. You keep and use the higher-tier gear.

Gear transfer explicitly and only transfers enhancement level onto +0 gear, doing it outside of that does nothing.

The only times you use gear transfer for anything in regards to progression is when moving to an entirely new set of gear. For instance, in T3 when you get to +15 on your Chaos Dungeon set you need to transfer it into the Legendary set of gear you would get from either Abyssal Dungeons or Argos so that you can continue to hone, normally, above 1370 ilvl.
