If you haven't activated it on your character already I would highly recommend starting a fresh character over and activating it on that one. Its very advantageous for a new player to utilize. Thankfully you're not far at all so its not really much of a set back for you.

The Story Express will expedite your entire progression all the way up to current content and give you the gear and other things you need to do so.

Gunlancer or Destroyer. They are pretty beefy (no there are no "tanks" in this game as you may be used to in other MMORPGs) but they are also on the slower side so that might not be entirely your cup of tea.
