if all you want to do is the story you don't technically have to do any group content because you can get gear to hone to the story thresholds from market, but it's inefficient that way, and you're essentially robbing yourself of the best in game source of gold and materials if you completely eschew group content.

i play ff14 as well and the fights are mechanically much more simple, most things are learnable within a couple hours rather than the weeks of prog other mmo content takes

the biggest obstacle is negotiating the player base which can be not so fun at times, but that's why you find a buddy to go with you

You can do the Chaos Dungeon weekly or Guardian Raid weekly, or if you get Boss Rush or Cube Tickets (these can drop in Chaos Dungeons) you can do those ones

When you have a guild, you also have quests you can select from the guild tab for boss rush/cube tickets as well. So you complete two quests each time you do a Boss rush or Cube.
