level 1 - level 5, sure, but you don't need buy tripods now to guarantee decent damage increase from lvl4 tripods

level 5's are nice, and yes its the best time to invest in them, but lvl 4 tripods are still very good, and lvl 5s are basically just min-maxing

If gold is all you're after @zinc garden, make 3 support (Bard/Paladin/Artist) and just make them 3x3 or 4x3 w/ legendary accs /w proper stats, then pump all the gold to your DPS characters (Striker, Reaper, etc), these supports will eventually be gatekept by higher roster parties that will look at your cards but you can still easily get gold this way. 4500 valtan, 4500 vykas, 4500 clown, per character. That is 13500 x 3 characters = 40500 per week (Clown ready) for 3 supports or 11700 x 3 = 35100 gold per week if you keep them at 1460 only.
