In short, go back to the earlier parts of the game and do horizontal content.

Rapporting earlier NPCs will sometimes give you small increments of Virtue points. Some titles will give you virtue points. Some Una reputations and Rapport rewards are virtue potion rewards.

Look if its really stressful, you can do the super loner approach, and just pay for Valtan buses. Use the buses to learn the fights no pressure and get some materials so you can upgrade your gear. And come back to party finder once you learn the fight and are overgeared

Honestly speaking Legion raids is a good portion of your gold income, but it's not the ONLY source of gold. Making mulitple alts and just doing chaos/guardian and selling the materials and gems can net you a good amount of gold too

it is not obligatory by any means, but it will make your life easier, you get skill points, runes and other things to help your roster chars
