with no real way to ease players into it or to keep a casual around
You're either at or head of the progress curve or you mitigate being behind with friends/statics
Prog groups get more sparse the longer content is out for
And telling people use "insert" 3rd party discord to form group doesn't really lend itself into keeping them around
not a lot of people wanna go throught that kind of effort to still get gatekept anways when they can play games with less barriers behind the fun

there's just so many layers of problems that make the game not easily accessible. it doesn't teach players how to do combat but thrust new players into content where they are expected to do damage (leads to jailing in raids) or be a passenger if there's enough juicers to make of for their lack of existing. there's no feedback when you're performing poorly except getting jailed. the community gatekeeps on things because of negative experiences, they don't want the hassle that may come with taking some less experienced, or elitist mentality of because I did "insert whatever" if anyone else hasn't done it I don't wanna raid with them. (there's nothing SG can do on the community part since that shipped sailed with elitism that developed since raid releases). Progression is sooo tightly knit with raiding and playing consistently that you feel that you have to constantly play the game or you'll be giga behind with a community that gatekeeps over the littlest things. And sooo much of the progression is tied to several weeks to a couple months worth of progression that even events don't really make up for that gap.
