think of it similar to elixirs like arna was saying. Red = Cost Reduciton (Amount of willpower needed to slot in the gem), Yellow = Power (points that are given to the core when you slot it in), Green = Main stat line (the first one), Blue = Sub stat line (2nd one)
so cutting a 5/5/5/5 is like cutting for 50 set elixir

My brain doesn't see it as being locked out but I can see where people are coming from if you're bored and the only thing that gives you a spark for motivation is gameplay changes or qol from grid. It's not like you're class somehow won't be able to clear the content or w/e. And there isn't sme crazy time limit where you need to do it within these couple weeks or it's over.
