multitude of reasons. supports have a lower barrier of entry compared to dps, it's the go to alt/rat class where you can put in the bare minimum investment and people will still take you into raids, it generally is a safer class in raids since you are tankier than a dps and have the ability to shield and heal for yourself or team, and the community hasn't been launching a coordinated effort to gatekeep rat supports
