I think that there's some kind of limited number of life skilling locations that can exist on the map at once. Eg if you mine one rock here it can respawn in the same location but it might also respawn somewhere else.

What I've found is that if you're the only one life skilling on the entire map, then you kind of want to hit up a large portion of the map, otherwise some of the better node locations won't respawn as much.
