Punishing, yes and no, since every attack decreases your temperature, if you get stuck in a bad pattern being slammed over and over you might lose half your temperature putting you in a permanent state below everyone, sure the battle item will fix that, but it's not available week 1, so it doesn't count as being part of the raid design, just a bandaid for later
