Honestly they change up enough of the gameplay for weapons, and some systems, and the environments that I see no problem with this.

People play MH for the monster fights and the weapon mechanics just as they play Souls-like games for the boss fights and difficulty

someone teach me advanced honing though i have 0 idea what it is

it's meant to be a cheaper way to hone when normal honing is very, very low rates

advanced honing is unlocked by doing echidna

basically it is a way to get additional item lvls on a specific peice without doing normal honing

every tap that you do, raises a bar of progress

when the bar fills you get 1 item lvl

so a peice that is 1620 item lvl when you start

would then be 1621

you do that 20 times

and you then have a peice that is 1640

the advantage of this system is that at higher honing lvls, the cost per tap is very high. advanced honing lets you get progress in without breaking your bank

it doesnt change the "level" of your gear as its seperate. so for instance if you have a lvl 19 peice

or here this is a better example, as you can see my headpeice is lvl 10

if i were to hone it normally it would go to +11

and the item lv. would go up

however if i advance hone, the item lvl will go up but it will still be +10

you can see that i have done advanced honing once, so the head is 1641, if i were to fill the gauge up again it would be 1642 and so on

this is what the UI looks like. Every time you do 6 clicks, the bubbles fill up in the top right, giving you an empowered effect on turn 7

that can be sometimes a full lvl on its own
