In some games you need to bring a healer with you, but only because you don't have enough defense or healing yourself.
The healer's function is to be a stat increase, if you just had more self healing you could solo. You bring a 2nd dps because you don't have enough damage yourself. Their presence is a stat increase.
You need a group for the content but it's not group mechanics.

In another game you need to bring the other two people not for their stats, but because you need two other players performing two other mechanics that must be done at the same time as what you're doing, because you can't be in three places at once.

Destiny has raids big on group mechanics. If you turned on God Mode, you still couldn't solo a Destiny raid.
