As someone who has worked in devops for over 10 years and now owns a company doing exactly that for companies I agree with you. The very first thing you’re taught as an intern is on deployment night you do 2 deployments, 1 test deployment to a mirrored dev environment and then immediately after deploying to Production. The second thing you learn is patches or new builds never work right on first deployment to live so have a backup plan, such as a rollback and bring the servers back up to live to avoid hurting the customer while you work on fixing the bugs. If I were to ever take the product down for a patch and then left it down for a whole day while I worked on a fix for the bugs while “the people working on the bugs are tied up on other things” I would be laughed out of a job, it’s a sin in the dev / publisher community.

you might be 20 gearscore higher or lesser than somebody else. but maybe somebody else is lucky and you are not. you can call it pay "2 progress" but its no win
