More natural obstacles
Not suggestion for obsticles but maybe add some slight tilt/animation to whatever direction the plane is going, just a bit more feel I think
Thank you. Indeed there will be animations for the player, and the prototype actually had some. The more important thing seems to be the style of the obstacles. Which would animate people to play this game when they see screenshots or gameplay videos? Tetris blocks throughout all levels, or level and atmosphere specific obstacles?
atmosphere/level specific would be cool IMO, you could also add some non-colliding things to the natural looking ones
trees, bushes, people(?), etc
Thanks. I'm already thinking about how to enrich the overall atmosphere because I think the game as it is right now, has no chance to be successful when compared to other aesthetically more pleasant endless runner games
why not have Willy fly through stages that get more wacky the farther you progress? Like you start with more naturalistic stuff and then start transitioning into wackier more abstract scenarios (like a Tetris universe he flies into after flying to level 100, for example) and different timelines etc. that way you can incorporate all the scenes
so you can start with something more bland but it gets progressively more interesting the farther you go
The problem it is against the teachings found in (casual) game design books. It is always better to have one theme reaching from start to end with little variations. Next, I want to keep it as simple as possible for this kind of game, without supplying 100 levels at start. If I see there is a worthy player base, then I can supply new levels in form of updates, but for now I think of this game as a 6 level casual game in which you need to avoid obstacles and master parkours.
I have also decided against the natural obstacles and for the tetris blocks but will change some critical things related to the overall gameplay.
Thank you and everybody who shared their opinion. Your input is very valuable.
Given these two design approaches, I would prefer the one with natural obstacles (although I like both anyway).
Also, in my opinion, tetris-style obstacles might be interesting if the airplane (and maybe clouds as well) would be also made in tetris-style 🙂
