While there's interesting conversation to be had about women's representation in porn, I don't think censoring the channel is the solution. Over time this channel has seen a variety of different kinks and people represented, although I agree with you, most of the content does depict women. I think however that demystifying sex and kinks bring their own benefits to society and communities as a whole, so imo it's worth to keep it. I will mention that the nsfw channel has some of the most interesting technical discussions I've seen in the server, but also this shouldn't be the criteria to decide whether we keep it or not, since this is a moral dilemma and not a utility one.

I would also argue that "porn hurts women" is true most of the time, but you have to analyze the context in which things happen. Very often the porn that hurts women is produced solely for the enjoyment of cishet men. I believe that our nsfw channel has a variety of different targets for the enjoyment of the content which imo makes it worth to keep it alone. Representing minorities in sex is also beneficial: for certain types of sexualities and kinks and combinations of thereof is really hard to find any form of representation. People end up feeling isolated and "weird", or worse.

So yes, if this was a frat boys club vibe, I'd agree to nuke it. But it isn't, there's decent diversity in the content creators there (at least from what I can assume, which isn't great, but it's an okay starting point)

Whether one like it or not, 18+ games being a big part of the industry is simply a fact. Those games cover a wide variety of genre, are made by a wide variety of people, including (as Qbie said) people that don't/can't find representation elsewhere, and putting all of that under the "this is obviously harmful" umbrella is (at best) in bad faith.

People making 18+ games should still be able to talk about what they're doing and ask for help/feedback. The rest of the server being 13+, a dedicated locked channel is the way to handle this properly on Discord. Don't like it? There are at least three different ways to not see said channel. It's personally not my jam most of the time so I hid it years ago, end of story. Grow up.

As has been said already, there are multiple ways to not engage with the channel. You can remove it from your channel list, you can give yourself the no-nsfw tag and you can just not enter it.
The answer to this discord suggestion is "No, we will no be removing the #gamedev-nsfw channel from the server"
