Hello, I'm the creator of Honk of Heroes.
The gameplay is simply a dungeon where you'd need 3 specific roles Tank, Healer and DPS.
Each role is going to be equally important.
The bosses are going to have unique tactics and you have to work in a team to beat them.

Hopefully Godot 4.1's multiplayer capabilities can get me far. 😅
I'm going to update this post when I have something new to showcase.

There aren't really any freely available art of that quality. Sometimes the technical quality can be high (Kenney, Lou Karlsberg etc) but it can't have this much personality

Multiplayer can be super tricky, sadly Godot doesn't have 'out of the box solution' for the long run, but it's still possible!

@tight escarp with broken outlines i mean like this. Like how i used black, broken outlines for seperating the background with player, but still keeping a style. Tho idk if it fits for your game. You could also try adding a light source or something from your goose to give the goose a more special aura that seperates the goose more (a lot of games do this instead)

I'm actually just winging it so far, I don't have much multiplayer experience prior to this game. Just prototypes.
But here's a few tips:

  • Keep track of all the objects spawned with the MultiplayerSpawner so each client knows what's up.
  • Let MultiplayerSpawner handle your scene's spawning/destroying nodes, don't fight it.
  • MultiplayerSynchronizer is not reliable if it's inside inside a scene that is not under the server's authority.

You see Honk of Heroes and think it's polished but I don't see that, I see all of the ins and outs and what needs to be fixed and it's very far from perfect to me.
What I'd recommend is that you start playing more games, build that library in your mind.
No ideas are original, for an example Honk of Heroes is just World of Warcraft's dungeon system with Untitled Goose Game's goofiness.
Nobody is a genius, we just know how to combine already existing ideas and trust the process 🙂

I completely understand this way of design.
The problem is that I want to isolate each role's experience.
I want the healer to focus +70% of their attention on healing.
That way each role has a unique experience, even tho you can play the same dungeon it will be a different experience with each role.
But that being said, your idea could enhance the experience none the less, it's worth the explore!

I've seen a concept of "defensive support" vs "offensive support" where it's like the difference between like buffing teammates (heals, extra dmg etc) and nerfing enemies (CC or anything like that)

Perhaps smth along the lines of an ability to slow enemies in an area, and then implementing an enemy that's rlly fast and hard to hit that is a lot easier to kill when slowed down?

So the support is actually valued outside of their ability to "make sure my health bar is full"

I taught myself c# and Unity over the past 4-ish years or so and now I'm knocking on the doors of Godot and gdscript and boy am I glad I am. This is one of the coolest projects I've seen in a long ass time. (Wildlife ecologist by day here too) The visuals so far and the character sprites themselves are perfect. lol

The art style is topdown but I can't tell if the player's collision with the level is overhead (player can only walk where there is a visible floor) or topdown (player can go behind walls that are in front of them and be partly obscured from view). If it is the latter I think the dirt on the ground behind the square in the bottom left of the screenshot should be down where the base of the back wall would be.

The idea of the enemy is to provide a static area where the player doesn't want to enter for a few seconds.
It just happens to be a vomit enemy 😅
