#Revise the code-help into a Forum/Thread

Can we revise the code-help channel into a forum/thread so we can keep each problem clear and organized? This would allow us to better understand each person's problem since the code-help channel seems clustered, making it difficult for people to solve their problems if someone going to interrupt that isn't related to the person's problem.

#

would be nice if the tag is like:

In-progress, Solved, Pending Review and Closed or whatever you you like

and add a tag about their problem like:
Scripting, VFX, Building, Game Design, Animation, Showcase and Modeling

Someone did suggest this a few days ago but refuse to elaborate 🤣

The server had run both, the forum type and the channel type at the same time as a pilot but the forum didnt catch on

#

very few people like that style, including me.

#

This is not the DevForums.

Just because a few people didn't like the forum style doesn't mean we should ignore it! It's a logical way of organizing things, and it's much more appealing to look at than a cluttered channel.

And I'm not just talking about the forum style, but also the way we structure our channel. A lot of the other channels are too cluttered with random people asking for help; instead, we could have one help-specific chat for each topic, so people can easily see the specific problem they're looking for.

I believe it was removed after a poll.

solo doesn't care

no one cares ab #advanced-code no one asked for it

#

we are asking for code help threads

spark gull
#

I didnt make it

oblique steeple
#

but u got my point

#

instead of adding what even five ppl are asking

#

this server adds something no one likely mentioned

#

i made similar thread to this with same idea

#

got told it was unpopular?

#

who cares

#

it was popular to the point it was filled with new threads

#

and it has its own + and -

#

u can seperately help one person on the same subject

#

instead of 20people yapping who knows ab what in code help

#

and you know urself code help becomes regular chat in the evening

No

rugged vale

but it would be nice to add it again tho

idle bluff
#

No it sucked

oblique steeple

it didnt

#

nothing sucks more than advanced code

#

i dont see the point of it

idle bluff
#

advanced code is code help but better but also worse because it's full of nerds

This is the second time I've asked for help with my issue on Code Help, but due to the chat cluttered, it's been difficult to get meaningful help from anyone

#

because we either get ignored or given half-help or incomplete advice from other ppl

twilit bramble
#

people who ask good questions get answers quickly

oblique steeple
spark gull
#

And then answer any questions people ask to understand the issue

#

Most questions asked are an XY problem

#

Thats not good.

oblique steeple
#

but u must still know its code help

#

most newbies dont even know how programming works

#

and that it can give a problem in english

#

i even think

#

that newbies dont even know how to open console

#

imo code help questions should really be a step above basic tutorial stuff

#

I usually just ignore questions like that now, and whether or not there's irrelevant stuff going on in chat doesn't affect whether I choose to help someone or not

#

not sure if I speak for all helpers with that but it's my take

oblique steeple

for someone who wants to help eitherway

#

without being in anyones business in code help

proven plank
#

yh but they can just help in the channel?

#

I'm not saying I get pissed if I see someone else helping a complete beginner I don't care

#

you're not being in anyone's business by helping someone

deft adder
#

where you go i go

proven plank
#

basically my point is - I don't think the extra conversation actually impacts whether someone's question gets answered

#

whether the channel is dead or whether its got people talking doesn't change whether I decide to help someone when I see them ask

deft adder
#

when you see them taz

#

that's the point

#

you can't see them when chat is so fast pace and multiple questions are being asked and aswered at the same time

proven plank
#

it's not that hard to keep up - if I'm active in the channel then I generally do get to read every message

#

but yeah that is vslid

#

if there was only helping then if someone clicks onto the channel they're more likely to see someone's question than a random conversation

deft adder
#

there are people that don't even use reply so it just makes it even more confusing

proven plank
#

yeah lol

Why does only code get a help channel

#

this is biased treatment

deft adder
