I am also fairly new to GFX. I'd say change the font and the spacing between the letters so they cover more of the border. Instead of small flags in the borders you could use a more simple icon.
You can also use the symbol inside as inspiration for the border. For example Special Air Service could be yellow with black stroke and black text just like the ribbon that says WHO DARES WINS.
