How much should I charge for comms?

How much should I charge for commissions?

I just turned 18 on august 4th and I plan on making money.

Head Portraits take me 1-4 hours

Full body takes me 3-9 hours

Album covers/conceptual stuff takes me 3-10 hours

I do what I do fairly quickly and well and have been at it for most of my life.

1st image is unfinished but it looks good so far so I’ll include it.

ur work is very high fidelity, u do realism extremely well but that isnt what most devs look for.

I'd say ud need to do a few roblox related examples IF you're looking to get work here/in roblox game development in general. You can 100% use some of the examples showcased to show off your realism skills. But until you create more simplified or at the very least Roblox related artworks many devs would be unsure if they should commission you.

For pricing I don't have one since i dont know the value of realism and how it can be used in roblox but you can start small (think 15-20usd an hour) however overtime as you do more and more roblox related works + getting exposed to increasing amounts of commissions you can slowly raise your pricing to meet demand. I think its normal to first undervalue yourself temporarily just to get the engine moving and then increasing overtime.

I would suggest before marketing yourself, to do maybe 3-5 roblox related artwork examples. You can find inspiration/refs by just goin to the roblox site, or roblox related channels like on X/Bluesky/DevianArt or even in discord servers like here and seeing the 2d art people make/post and try to either make your version of it or creating a new style that matches closer to the roblox art you see often.

Many people start with little to no skill and build up along the way. But you're clearly skilled so you just need to adapt your Artstyle or focus, start lower with pricing and slowly increase it as you got more roblox examples, experience in commissions etc.

It's actually a remake of my old project, this the original from 4 years ago. It was originally more medieval clock tower in style, like sure the colors is cute but the issue is it's hard to read as a small wall clock in indoor space, especially since I'm miopic, so I go the with victorian high contrast black and white look instead which we still do today. It's popular for practical legibility reason, after all it would be odd to have a huge clock at home.
