Hey I just built a new computer with a asus b550m-a WiFi 2 and I have gotten windows 11 installed but I have no WiFi and plugging in the Ethernet doesn’t work also just says unidentified network. The biggest thing I’ve heard is that I need to update my drivers, will I need to download them on a usb and do it like that? If so where do I go to do that. Thank you

How would I update my WiFi driver, download it on a usb and plug it in and install it from it? I feel like that’s the only way since I can’t get the pc to connect at all

I ended up fixing it. I had a usb WiFi stick from an old pre built I had, downloaded the drivers onto a flash drive. Put it in the new pc and installed the drivers and plugged in the usb and to my luck it worked. With a whopping 5mb/s download I set up the rest of the computer and got everything going with the nice WiFi 6.

That's really strange that even a cable connection wouldn't give you internet.

Should have checked your IP, if it started with 168 that basically means the PC wasn't able to contact the router to get an IP address from the DHCP.

I am pretty sure what you described is my problem for the Ethernet. When I plug it in it will try to identify for a few minutes then say unidentified network. I ran the diagnostic and it basically said what you said that it couldn’t find the IP and the 6 one not the 4 does start with 168 the iv4 or something idk is a normal ip while the iv6 is letters and numbers at random. I’ve look through armory crate and all drivers are updated. I’ve unplugged and replugged from pc and from router, I’ve restarted, not sure what else there is that I know at least.

168 means the device gave itself an IP, that happens when it can't contact the router. Usually because it's out of range, but can be plenty of other issues. Basically it self creates a network, that way if all devices gave themselves an IP they would be with an network with each other and able to communicate.

But because you don't have a connection to your router, you also don't to your gateway so there is no outside communication aka no Internet.

Could use some advice/improvements on either of these builds:

Expected usage lifetime: 6-7 years without major upgrades(RAM is an acceptable upgrade in that time).

Type of Games it'll have to run: Farming Simulator, Fallout, Cyberpunk, Project Zomboid, Skyrim, Just Cause 3 and other related games

Other stuff it'll have to do: VMs(for my hobby of screwing around with things), Web server, for reason, see VMs, casual streaming

Must have: SATA M.2 Compatibility, Bluetooth

I will tell you already now, by the time you get to like 5 to 6 years, not only is AMD worse in scaling but Ray Tracing is already more and more and more and more becoming a norm.

And that AMD GPU won't ever reach the performance you will want especially at those resolutions

I personally just really like this one but it's also literally the very last gen of AIOs. Also Tower is rather personal preference, however TD500 mesh is really 1 of the best cases out there for the price. it has a huge amount of room to possibly future upgrades that would need more space. It's also really easy to work with including cleaning it.

Someone really likes Asus while they are massively inflated in price which makes it go over 3k.

Also a 13900k doesn't make sense for gaming.

All you need is a cpu that can carry the gpu, so basically 99 % of all cpus these days because the high resolution. A 13900k is 1 of the worst recommendations in that sense. Also because we will barely every use the igpu if ever. It's just better to get the kf or even f version. Like you have a gpu for a reason. It saves you a bunch of costs. BTW only 1 drive with that budget.... At least have an OS drive lol. You basically suggest a worse value build, mine will perform nearly exactly the same yet it has more flexibility and has more value.

It isn't about getting scammed, it's about you being at literally the source of production = low costs. We aren't and we have a thing called import taxes, especially without a trade deal these are the default 20 %. Also I did went to look for a website or page of your shop, because I always like to look through small business and start ups etc. Is a side effect of the job I have, I do hope the facebook page isn't yours though even though exact logo.... I would call it a scam when you charge these prices for real even if internationally shipped.

That's how you can weight in how good a gaming PC will be... just half the budget, that should be roughly your GPU regardless and what will decide the performance.

A lot of online purchases don't have tax and even if they do our tax rates are considerably lower than VAT. For example I only pay 5% vs the EU average of 21%.

While you as an EU citizen can buy it from the lowest country without having to pay extra VAT, because you can't charge it twice within the CU.

Happens a lot I order parts from a neighbouring country, because on average they are 15 % cheaper. While within mine it would be much higher exactly because of our local VAT rates. Meanwhile I order from them without paying a single Euro extra. Like shipping also barely cost us anything, while it's nearly always within 24 hours... get that in the US you might be more expensive than us then

Nope it’s all plugged into the gpu. Both monitors are on, and working, when I load up Fortnite it runs great on controller. But as soon as I get on my keyboard it stutters and it’s unplayable. Same with borderlands 3

5600 is like near slowest you can get. A good spot is usually 6400 cl32 or something. Also if that's your only drive, I would add a 250GB OS drive.

No. NVME(Non-Volatile Memory Express) is a protocol for non-volatile memory such as SSD and was created to solve a bottleneck created by SATA transfer speed. Maybe you are thinking of HBM (which still really isn't a consumer thing)?

Actually kind of yes. ASUS did a 4060Ti that has an NVME slot to utilize the other 4 lanes that the the card doesn't use.

What do you mean the other 40 the card doesn't use? The card sits in a bus with 16 lanes you don't magically get more lanes out of it. So you are sharing the 16 lanes you get with your GPU which seems like a poor choice.

IIRC t he 4060Ti is only 4x, The top PCIe card will switch between 16x or 8x as needed. Which in this case the card is only 4x. So that leave 4 lanes unused. That ASUS card with teh M.2 slot will utilize the unused lanes.

4k monitors actually have the pixels

Because native 4k is still very different than dsr which isn't even AI upscaling. It's basically a resolution scaler which you have in so many games now. Like that image is not 4k that you are seeing on DSR... all it does is it renders at a higher resolution but then scales it back to your monitor resolution. So what you are seeing is for example a very performance heavy 1440p for no reason. You literally could turn on Sharpen+ and get the same effect without a performance drop.

A really good way of saying it is basically.. you turned on a very very very expensive AA that halves your performance.

Hello, I have recently just built a new pc and everything works fine besides Ethernet not connecting. “Unidentified network” I would diagnose it and it would come up with “Ethernet doesn’t have valid IP configuration. I have attached two photos that just show what I’ve said. I’ve updated drivers through my motherboard website. I’m just kinda stumped.

I have also updated drivers, uninstall and reinstall, windows updated. I’m just not too sure what to do because everything online all talk about updating drivers but idk if I am missing something or what. Any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

i'd say no. not if your spending any reasonable amount of money doing so. the performance from the cpu is about 12% more. as far as gaming goes. the extra cores / threads won't be noticeable as most games dont utilise multiple cores. (I've not noticed any noticeable changes when i upgraded from an i7 7700k to a i5 13600kf.)

cpu.userbenchmark.com is pretty useful when trying to figure out if it's worth upgrading compoments.

Never use this website BTW, the numbers are skewed massively because of their skewed tests. Also you should have seen noticeable changes when you jump that big in cpu unless you have another bottleneck going on incl potentionally resolution.

Actually no I bench marked several Ryzen to I7 through i9 and although it seems to be only an i3 12100 with it's single threaded Preformance, it's only comparable to a Ryzen 9 5950x which is a 16 Core 32 thread. those two are beasts

That cpu is a little old but 32gb ram, great gpu, decent storage (although you don't mention brand or if they are nvme), and 2 monitors seems worth it.

Mobo and cpu were high end when new 5 years ago so still should have life in them. Gpu is more important for games anyway.

To get a new pc with a 4070 ti you're probably looking at another $500 and that's without monitors

Yeah the cpu was mainly what I was concerned about, my main game of choice is Stellaris which gets pretty bad late game, but if all I have to do is upgrade the cpu the rest of this pc is pretty future proofed for what I intend to play

Upgrading just cpu isn't really a thing you can do. You will need to change the motherboard too to go more than a generation or two newer. That specific mobo can go to 9th gen (currently 7th).

It completely depends on your budget and what you plan to do with the PC. Your motherboard will be a AM5 socket type. But which one will depend on the RAM and M.2 SSD('s) you intend to buy. Same goes for your PSU. You can't decide which one you'll need until you know what your PC is going to demand

As long as your graphics card fits in your motherboard, it doesn't matter if it's GDDR5 or GDDR6. DDR is for regular RAM and GDDR is for Video Memory. They're separate from each other

I've been having trouble playing some games they crash but only since i fitted i new graphics GTX1070 which i found out needs a min 500pcu and i had a 250 i so the games were using very high power i was told its because my power supply wasn't up to it well i bitt the bullet and actually fitted a new corsair 750 i strip car engines for a living unplugging 5 plugs on my pc was terrifying but it works as it should but the games still say there using high power ? did i balls up or is that how it should be but now i have the power to run them with the graphics turned up from min extra note my game still crashes it just did it

Yes there is a risk but it is very low and most companies will pay to replace the parts if it is their fault. The chance is quite low though as they are completely sealed. You do not refill them, you just use them until the pump dies then buy another one. Most AIO perform about the same.

If you aren't upgrading your GPU you should be fine for now. Almost all companies that make PSU have calculators for wattage. I would just double check to see what they say.

I'd say get 2x 8gb ram instead of 2x 16 since you don't really need that much ram for a low-medium range PC. Also, the 4060 is really a bad value, especially if you use a AMD processor. If I were you, i'd either pick a 7600 or a 6600 since you can sync the amd cpu and gpu (its also cheaper)

Remember if you change type of ram: for the 5600g, use the ddr4 ram
