From what I’ve seen, people are kind of split on who the protagonist should be for GoW 6. I’ve personally gathered that roughly of fans base want JD, and the other want Kait (Again, roughly).

I’m just curious how this will turn out. Personally, I’m a classic Gears guy who wants to play as Marcus, but I realize that’s pretty much off the table at this point. (To be clear if I included Marcus he’d almost certainly win).

Out of these choices though I’m completely content with a rough 50/50 split. If I had to choose one or the other, I’d go with JD because I think GoW is more about the Fenix family than anything else.

We definitely should have had an act after JD’s Hammer of Dawn incident. Seeing him struggle to cope with the emotional trauma and physical scarring from it would have allowed for some good scenes and dialogue alongside how he actually befriended Fahz.

It’d have made more sense than him just turning up on Vasgar with “everything’s great!”.

before ending the franchise they'll have to remaster gears 2 & 3 for pc. the franchise isn't gonna last that long, because as a microsoft exclusive they care about halo being forever since it's the more popular ms game. walk outside and ask any gamer about halo and they'll be familiar. ask them about gears and most people won't even know what it is.

JDs death was definitely the canon one. There’s two interactions that lead me to believe it; when JD tries to talk to Baird and Baird says “we’re fine JD we’ll talk later” And JD sadly responds with “I’d like that” but then never gets the chance to. This will build character for Baird in the future as he will grieve that he never made amends with his “nephew”. And as well as a line of dialogue between Marcus and JD right before it happens where he tells him he’ll see him on the other side, but JD doesn’t come back. Also the cutscenes just fit so much better with JDs death. That entire scene is meant to wrench our heart that Marcus lost someone else. And the scene where Cole gets torn in half and Marcus screams NO in a horrific way, cause he can’t lose someone else close to him after losing JD. I’m thinking gears 6 will see a distraught Marcus after losing everything sacrifice himself just like Dom to save everyone one last time. Hopefully we get to play as him while it happens

On top of everything you said, the track that plays during the cutscene where they reunite with Marcus after the death is different depending on who dies, and the official soundtrack only has the version where JD dies

I don’t know, I feel like Dels death will be cannon. Gears 5 spent most of the game getting you invested in del and kait, it seems like the story was setting you up to have a bigger emotional connection to del. Which would make the biggest statement with his death. Plus JD was basically a side character through the majority of the game, it doesn’t seem like the “big loss” of the game would be a side character.

Also, if they are trying to recreate the “Marcus Dom” dynamic from the original trilogy, the del would be the one to die so JD would have to deal with the loss.

I understand the “Marcus looses everything” mentality, and why that would make JDs death seem cannon. But again, JD and Kait are the main characters in these games (even if Marcus is still the fan favorite) why would they waste the emotional gut punch on Marcus who was a side character?

Honestly ideally neither of them would die because both still have a lot to them. JD especially, but also bc Del pretty much has had zero de elopement

Maybe they will do something like what happened with mass effect 3 where you can load you previous save or replay your choice and it will effect who is alive in 6.

Either that or maybe whichever character is canonically dead will appear in flashbacks and be playable for small segments

I just can’t see them doing two timelines. It’s way too restrictive for the expanded universe

or maybe gears 6 will be about 2 different realities set in alternate universes. one where jd died and one where del died.

I don’t see tc putting in that much effort. I think we will see JD be the main character of 6. The big loss will probably be his father dying to save him or something. (I hope not, I’d hate to see Marcus die)

Marcus, Cole, Baird (He could still fight) Dizzy (Not an og, but was part of delta. Assuming he's still alive) or maybe Paduk or heck, just a solo portion where you play as Marcus and are in charge of a group of new soldiers as you try to hold a position or something. Maybe a prologue or epilogue.

Not that i would want to see Marcus die in gears 6, but a valiant last stand holding strategic location, or defending people who are evacuating, would be the best way to see him go out, if TC decides to kill him off.

I do NOT want to see Marcus die. Like, unequivocally, 100%, I want him to see the end of all of the UIR/locust/swarm wars. I want him to die at peace, being a simple farmer tending his crops (probably tomatoes)

I’m willing to bet it’s del that dies. I think I stated before, they spend the whole of gears 5 making you feel attached to del as he and kait venture through the campaign. It would be a poetic mirroring of gears 3 dom sacrifice to have the best friend die instead of the main character (jd). Plus jd was hardly around through the bulk of the game, a big thing like killing of a main character feels sort of pointless when the character has no background or emotional connection to the player
