#Permanent XP bonus

While the Double XP weekend is likely appreciated by most, I personally don't know if it's sufficient for late adopters. Sure, they might unlock a few weapons here and there but for the most part, getting to certain levels on each class isn't fun at all, with the only class that doesn't really feel like a grind being the Vanguard. I wonder if it'd be worth it to give permanent XP boosts to the following classes:

Archer: Double XP
In most situations, Bow/Hatchet, Crossbow/Shortsword or Crossbow/Knife are enough for your archery needs. However, I find that Skirmisher is arguably the most fun (albeit also the most impractical) way to play archer, while the Siege Crossbow can be a huge boon when attacking specific objectives. With the strict class limits in place however, it's often extremely difficult and frustrating to unlock everything for Archer since this will be your least played class as a result of said limits.

Footman: 1.5x XP
It's no secret that I loathe playing as the footman, though the Steam Forums suggest that I'm definitely not the only person who thinks that the starting halberd and kitchen knife is insufficient for playing the class. The best loadout seems to be One-handed spear/Mace/Medium Shield for most situations, and the amount of leveling you need to do is a lot. Allowing a somewhat unpopular class to level faster should reduce the frustration of unlocking the poker before never touching the class again.

Knight: 1.? XP
Unsure if the Knight necessarily needs an XP boost since the best Guardian loadout only requires I think Level 5 or 6? Even then, I acknowledge that the hammer and shield combo might not be to everyone's tastes, so I guess a minor XP boost wouldn't break the class' progression. (Greatsword on Officer is still Level 20)

Vanguard: 1x XP
Already has a strong start at level 1. He is arguably the easiest class to level organically without mindlessly grinding for XP

Who the hell cares? XP mean nothing later on and in the beginning you just don't know enough to actually care what class/load out you're playing.
Plus you unlock stuff pretty fast anyway

I mean, Footman is stuck with straight downgrades for 16 levels, and a particularly oppressive ballista is frustrating to fight if you can't damage it from afar. Unlocking the One-Handed Spear is not fun at all when you're stuck with straight downgrades for about three quarters of the Footman's progression.

Big disagree. Grinding unlocks was part of the allure of this game for me

Yeah i like the challenge of using a weapon im not comfortable with. I know thats not everybody though. The developers abandoned this game anyway and i doubt this is something they would implement

The fact that the game's no longer being updated should be an argument in favour of making things easier to unlock for newcomers.

Maybe. Good luck convincing the remaining mod team of that

If they're willing to do Double XP weekends for a game that has reached end of life every now and then, they can sure as shit make the XP boosts permanent

blazing dirge

Yep they sure can. Its not a question of can they, but will they. The answer is very likely no. Double xp weekends could easily be automated coding they implemented far back

# low nacelle Even when playing with weapons objectively worse than what you didn't have acces...

Consider that new players have no Idea which weapons are actually "good" or not. Hardly any of them will even understand what it is that makes weapons good. If you're new, you're way too enthralled by the game's spectacle to even consider game balance. Plus there aren't many "bad" weapons in this game to begin with. Sure, there are differences but it's not like you'll ever be stuck with something unviable.
Plus, the best weapons in the game won't matter if you don't know what you're doing. And you won't know what your doing until long after you've already unlocked anything you'd need. I just don't see the point.

OP isn't wrong. Game is dead right now and that only goes downhill from here on out. Every month the game will drop players until it reaches the same player count a Chiv 1 did. It's better to give a XP boost to certain classes to make the progress of trying out different weapons more appealing and faster for new blood.

Do agree that once you reach a certain skill tier in the game, the weapon doesn't matter as much as the player. Any weapon can be good, there are a few awful secondary weapons but the only people who see a disadvantage from using the "off meta" weapons are low skill players.

Do you think 3.5 days is enough to grind for the Siege Crossbow on Archer and One-Handed Spear on Footman? Cuz I sure as fuck don't

I would say that 3.5 is enough

Or even overkill

As I've said earlier, bow/hatchet is usually all you need to do well as an archer, though Skirmisher, even if underpowered, is a much more fun playstyle, and fighting siege weapons without the siege crossbow isn't fun at all.

Also the fact that Archer will be your least played class due to the class being capped at 16%, which translates to 3 on 40p and 5 in 64p
