Hey everyone, we've been made aware of the game soft locking for a few users between the opening screen and the main menu, usually when the user is prompted to press A

If you are experiencing this issue, can you please provide a few more details:

  1. Which platform specifically are you trying to play on? PC Game Pass, Xbox series X/S, Xbox One, etc.
  2. Which platforms you have recently played the game on (PC Game Pass, Xbox series X/S, Xbox One, etc.)
  3. Is the game currently running in the background at all on your PC or Xbox before switching platforms
  4. When did the issue first start occurring
  5. Any specific details at all you have to add, the more detailed the better

4: I downloaded the game on PC GamePass on 5/26
5: I've done reinstalls, repairs, and a previous fix that I found on Reddit which no longer works. This involves terminating the gamingservices.exe process via task manager. When first launching the game after a reinstall, a popup appears that says that the game is trying to sync data, which closes almost instantly. With subsequent launches, this popup no longer appears.

  3. No. The game seems to run in the background (or only the music) when I attempt to login on Xbox. Apart from the music in the background, my game is completely frozen.
  4. Issue started when the game was opened to PSN+ players.
  5. First issue was a "Login Error : Request Null Timeout". Now, my game freezes after pressing 'A' or Enter depending on what I am playing on. Never get past the frozen screen to the main menu, regardless. I have tried changing my network connection (currently wired and have been for a while), tried clearing my cache multiple times, have uninstalled and reinstalled the game on both platforms, have tried a different Xbox account, have tried spamming 'A' and Enter when I first could, have had friends post about it on Reddit and Twitter on my behalf, and have submitted a ticket to Torn Banner. This has been going on for nearly a month. Please help. I initially played this game on Game Pass Ultimate, but my friends and I love it so much, we've bought the game outright and purchased the first Campaign Pass. We've poured money into this game and it is now unplayable for me. Please help!
    P.S. everyone seems to think it is my horrible internet, but I have never had issues before now and I have tried different connections repeatedly, to no avail.

Pc and xbox game pass ultimate on both console and pc. , recently played or tried to on pc game pass. No it is not. My pc or xbox are usually shut off when I try to use the other. A week or 2 after I first installed and everything ran fine. And when I switched to using pc from xbox. No more details. Just freezes on both xbox and pc

  4. I noticed this today, immediately.
  5. In a means to find a solution, I uninstalled the game on the Xbox. This did not work. I can quit the game and restart it, but it will always stop on the third loading bar no matter what, and then just freeze. I've never faced this issue before. Last night was the first time I ever played the game on my PC.

Happened on Xbox Series X for me starting today, played this morning with no issues. Own the game on PC through epic with no issues, game pass with xbox. Not running in background, also uninstalled and reinstalled to run into the same issue

I solved my problem, i bought chivalry 2 on epic games. 50% off insted of using my Xbox game pass because obviously thats not working.

Hi, orginially posted the "game freezes after "Press A/Press Enter" thread in here.

  3. Not currently running anywhere else. Just loaded chiv up for the first time in 3 weeks, same issue. Shut off the pc, tried on xcloud through my phone and it worked.
  4. shortly after the release of the new map. ~ 1 month ago
  5. I can still hear the audio but it's just stuck at the screen I posted a picture of. I have to close it with the task manager since alt-f4 doesn't work.
    I have restarted my pc, verified game files through the Xbox app, ran a repair through the Windows apps, reinstalled the game, ran it as admin, updated my graphics drivers, repaired the visual C++ installs, and swapped from wired to wireless.
    The task manager shows Chivalry2-WinGDK-Shipping.exe is not responding when it freezes.
    Ran the terminate, repair, reset options in windows for chiv2.
    Reinstalled multiple times and to different drives.

  5. So here is what just happened, friend was having trouble starting and it is freezing, mine was running fine. 2 days later, we both get it working. He's not very tech savvy for this is his first PC and it just magically started working and unsure if he did anything different. We play a game or two then close out of the game to change something. His loads back up fine, mine freezes.

Chivalry 2 is not responding but what I find very interesting is when I force close it in the task manager another window pops up labeled "Gaming UI" I'm guessing a part of the xbox app/game bar. This window is asking me what save I want to use, local files or cloud. I'm thinking this is what is causing it to freeze so I've been trying to find a way to access that window while the game is running except I can't. I've tried everything from forcing the game to minimize to trying to find the game settings in local files to force the resolution down so I can somehow grab a hold of it. I'm about 95% certain that "Gaming UI" window does not appear until the game shuts down, which makes it meaningless because once you select which files you want to load the game is already shut down and it instead loads nothing.

I was able to find the "Gaming UI" in my background processes and force close it with the main menu frozen, when I did it unfroze the menu and it works??? My settings have been reset, but my levels, progression, coins, all there.

Exitting to main menu after ending a game still causes this issue but again, ending task for "Gaming UI" in background processes fixed it. I believe this does reset settings every single time though which is annoying.

I have the same problem currently on xbox and only happened ever since i played it on my PC 2 days ago, now my xbox version keeps crashing at “press A to play” then take me back to xbox menu

Mine works about every 3 hours and still, even then, I have to spam A. On top of that, just before the ending of my first match, my game crashes and sends me back to the main menu where I then have to spam some more. I don't manage to get back in and have to try again hours later. Thinking about just buying the game over again on Steam. 🙄

@sweet rain @delicate swan Open up 'Services' by searching in your windows bar. Find these 4 services and start them. I also recommend right-clicking on them, Properties, Startup type - change to automatic.

See if doing that will either fix the issue all together OR that Gaming UI background process will appear when you have the game frozen at the main menu

For Xbox users, a short-term fix is to set up a guest account on your Xbox and play on gamepass Chiv2 with that. Its a profile sync error, so if you're on a different profile the game will work fine but you'll be back at Lvl 1. My main account has been broken on Xbox for almost 3 weeks so I guess this is the only way to be able to play

  5. It doesn't freeze for me - all the music falls out and only hear wind audio while the loading icon at the bottom right continues spinning indefinitely. Character models stay in idle animation.

Ok I may have some good info on this. Not a solution but it’s happened twice. First time reinstalled but I know what’s happening now. Game freezes at the login screen after hitting enter Xbox game pass on pc. For me if I hit ctrl/alt/del then the game opens TOS and tutorial warning like it’s my first time playing and all cosmetics are default. What’s going on is the game is syncing correctly to Xbox servers. Whenever this happens go into Xbox network in settings and check you’ll see teredo access is blocked. Microsoft’s solutions don’t fix it. Gaming services reset ect., bc it happens again each time chiv tries to sync. It only happens with Chiv not other games. So Chiv is causing issues with syncing data to Microsoft Xbox servers. If you hit fix it you can sometimes restore Xbox connectivity. But it happens again when Chiv try’s to sync and break it. Last time reinstalling the entire game was the only fix might have to try again.

I did my first 150 levels on Xbox console. I’m 200 something now. I didn’t have this issue until the first time around 180.

The first time after I fixed it by a delete and reinstall all my cosmetics were back to how they were even though after I got in and it was defaulted the one time I had changed them. So even after I was in it wasn’t syncing

I wonder if just deleting local data would have been a solution. Bc the first time sync when the game is new is a different window than the typical sync and that’s what seems to fix it for me

Starting happening to me a few weeks ago on Xcloud. Plays fine on PC downloaded through game pass but I cant cloud game chiv. It works every once in a while then quits again. Going on 4 weeks.

Hi @barren ice I'm running into that issue starting from today on my PC, but it happened previously when tried to start the game from my Xbox series S:

  1. PC Game Pass, Xbox series S
  2. PC, but tried to play on the Xbox, but it freeze between opening screen and the menu, after few secs the game crash. On the PC now it's freezing and I'm forced to kill it with taskmgr
  3. No, game wasn't running on the PC when I tried it on the console. On the xbox it never worked.
  4. It never worked on the xbox, even if I tried to reinstall it. On PC the issue started from today
  5. It's clear that it could stems from bad data or something corrupted on the cloud profile.

I’ve only had it on PC Game Pass so far, though I may try it out on Xbox One if the game don’t work soon

Not entirely sure what this one means, but I haven’t switched platforms(I started on pc game pass and stayed) so probably not

Just today, maybe an hour or two ago(that being June 22nd 12:30-1:30 MST[could be wrong about the exact hour but I don’t think I am]). Nothing was really noteworthy about the time either.

Not much I can say. I push enter once it says to push A/enter to start, and the prompt goes away and so does the option to exit game. After that the game continues as normal for like, a second, with the loading icon popping up, then the video freezes and the loading icon disappears, but the audio continues.

Had issues yesterday with it seemingly timing out syncing data after pressing A to start (tried deleting saved data/uninstalling and reinstalling). Today, i got to the Play screen and it completely crashes or it freezes with just the audio still playing. Playing on Xbox Series X, have a normal license but also subscribed to GP. Never played on PC.

  4. 2 weeks ago roughly, didn’t give it much thought at the time since I thought it was a product of me Alt-F4 from the game instead of closing it correctly.
  5. The following details happen or have already happened when I tried to fix it.

• When the screen freezes up when entering the main menu, I alt tab out and back in and it brings up the License agreement again. If I press accept it pushes me to the main menu.

•Cosmetics are 'rest' after I’m pushed in, anything purchased is still unlocked but my characters don’t have the cosmetics, faces, etc equipped the same way I left them last time.

•I can’t join any games if I’m hosting a party or playing solo, only able to join bot practice, even then it ‘rests’ all my levels in the classes that I have where everything is level 0 instead of whatever level I was at before.

•When I try to join online games it takes me out of the loading automatically and I’m sort of locked in a state where I do the following: Try’s to load into a match > Game takes me out of the loading > hears the audio of found a match in the background > nothing happens, audio queue just repeats > Tries to join a game again > Repeat.

•When I join a friends group they are able to join matches and load into games but when I enter the loading screen it takes me back to the title screen with the error “Invalid Join data” then the whole thing repeats again.

I’m currently trying to see if moving the file location will fix it because Verifying file integrity doesn’t work.

Update: Moving the file location does not do anything, now I can’t even get past the title screen due to it now asking which data to use either the newer or older one, problem is, the title screen is frozen so you can’t select the pop up that asks which data to use, once you Task manager Chivalry 2, the pop up appears but doesn’t work

  5. Power Recycling does not work, and only crashes when pressing A. Sometimes (if you're lucky) the game will just infinitely load instead of crashing after a couple seconds of pressing A

Does anyone else use a Xbox controller they sync back and forth between the pc and Xbox? Everytime I’ve had this bug right before it does this I can get into the game, but the controls are spazzing out on the controller in the menu. Nothings wrong with the controller. Then I exit the game reset and everytime I got this error. Deleting and redownloaded fixes it. I’m getting goddam tired of basically redownloading the game every day tho

just to add one more detail: it seems to be that the cloud version of the game isn't affected by this problem, currently I'm facing crashes on xbox series s and freeze on the PC, while starting the game through cloud gaming service ... the initial profile sync completes without issues.

moreover, after playing game on the cloud, both PC and xbox, during the initial phase, start to sync because the xbox live sync dialog appears for few secs but just after that the issue goes up

After the raiding party update I started to have all these same issues. Right now I can play on PC but crash on the "press A screen" on my Xbox console. It was broke, got fixed for a week, then re-bugged my Xbox console after playing on my PC... It's something to do with the SYNCing from the PC and xbox

Update: I got chiv to work on my Xbox series x. I’m enrolled in the Xbox insider program, alpha skip-ahead. My last ditch effort to fix my crashing issue. I left the insider program, which prompted my console to update/revert back to ‘normal’. Likely a fluke. But maybe it’ll help other players on Xbox with the same circumstances. Hope this helps some one.

@hardy isle seems to be correct with the issue. If you're in the skip ahead alpha and move to the skip ahead beta, Chiv seems to work again. (Just tested it on my side, I didn't leave the program completely)

I have found the fix (sort of).
the game doesnt show this message when chivalry is up, and when you close it, it doesnt matter because the game is closed.
Ive reinstalled my game and its been fixed and shows on the screen now.

apparently the devs are aware but can't/won't fix it. Happened to me about a month ago and was never resolved - I can literally just never play chiv 2 on my Xbox again I guess. I've been playing on PC Game Pass since then, but as of yesterday I started having the bug that @wintry fractal called out. Attempting a reinstall now but my hopes are pretty low. I feel like this was just an elaborate plan by the devs to force us all to buy the Steam version lol. cc @barren ice

I appreciate that someone is looking into it but man come on.. as has been stated this is going on over 2 months now. I wonder since this seems to be heavily a Game Pass issue with this game, if we reported this to Xbox instead would there be more interest in getting it fixed? Seems Xbox would be interested to know a game people are paying for Game Pass to play is not available...

I was finally able to log into my account on PC. Now the game freezes every 30 seconds. Not even sure how the hell that happens. If I use an alt account on the same PC and same internet, no issues.

Read through the Patch Notes and didn't see anything about this issue either.

I'm not sure how many people this will help, but I found a fix for myself. I always played on PC game pass, but I played on the console once and after that the PC version would freeze. I was still able to play on the cloud and console just not on the PC. I went back to the console and played until I gained an account level. After that I went back to the PC and it was able to sync up and continue past the title screen. Hopefully this can help anyone who isn't freezing on all 3 ways to play the game through game pass.

Just an update, 3 months later and im still unable to play chivalry on my PC, or my Xbox. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Had it happen 5 minutes ago. Ps5. I pressed start and then there was a 3 minute freeze delay and then the - play, news update, and developer message came on screen. I was about to restart but actually didn’t freeze this time. It’s happened here and there more so within the last few months. It still will freeze periodically when a match has ended and it searching for the next map as well.

and delete a folder name like this: 000901F21B526D54_0000000000000000000000006DDE1135 which is i think your local save

For those that want to try deleting their data and redownloading it from the cloud on console
Hover over the game and select manage game and add ons you'll then see saved data at the bottom click on it and click delete all and then just boot the game back up and wait for the data to sync don't interrupt the syncing process as it could corrupt your data and you'll lose everything

After being unable to open the game for around 3 weeks, I tried turning off the Xbox Game Bar and it seems to have worked. It opened perfectly fine, where as before it would sit on a black screen for a minute before Gaming Ui showed up to say it reached a fatal error.

Well, Ive have been having this issue on my handheld (Asus Rog ally). Which sees the game as a PC game, so it runs like via Windows 11, anyhow... Ive tried about everything said above. There is only one issue which resolved it for me one time. And that was whilst playing on Console, change outfits in game, and play a game while doing so. And after the game go back to main menu and close the game... after i did that it went past the freezing part when entering X and i could play on my pc... its really weird and actually a pitty TB hasnt done anything to fix it correctly! I hope we can figure something out

I can log into my account now but it freezes every 30 seconds for 10-15 seconds at a time. I've been unable to play this game since May. Is this issue apart of the Reclaimation Update? Can this get hotfixed? Hundreds of players are experiencing this. How is this not addressed yet?

On the "press A to start" screen you crash when you do... it's something wrong with the cloud and it's been an ongoing thing

Since May. Months of this. They can hotfix steam and epic game matchmaking issues but won't hotfix this Xbox problem.

Restarting my device usually resets it, and allows me to get past the soft lock. Not always but most of the time.

Are you planning on giving people that's been locked out 100 levels? Because it's been 3 months and that's how many levels I should've gotten. I'm not asking for a refund (which the game is literally not playable) @barren ice

My first post in this thread was June 6th 2023 and the fact I still can’t play the game almost 5 months later is absolutely absurd. Neither on Xbox or PC. Nothing but fake promises saying you found the solution. What an absolute joke.

I tried all kinds of stuff. The issue is account specificfrom what I could tell. I could play on a separate account fine. If I logged into my actual account, nothing. Didn't matter what computer or Xbox I use either.
