#A Better Experience for Defenders

I’ve come back from taking a little break from Chiv and noticed that being a defender really isn’t getting any better and just wanted to throw out some improvements they could make.

• In a lot of maps some phases give a way bigger advantage to attackers like Rudhelm, in the 1st and 4th objectives the attackers can move the tower/ramps even with more defenders around with also a 8 minute timer.

• Other ways to make defending more manageable could be adding some more things like bolsitas in a couple places (of course with some flanking routs so it’s not a pain as attackers

• Another issue not enough people are taking about is communication, on console there is no text chat leading to most players acting on their own with no strategy. Yes there are some voice options with certain phrases such as “flank with me” or “Hold here” but no body listen or even uses those. One simple implement that could help is some sort of small notification saying “(Player name) wants to hold this position” or “(player name) wants to flank with them

• A small buff could be made for buildable structures like poolarm’s spikes or the guardian’s flag giving them more health (of course it would need to be balanced with the field engineer with how many they can place)

But those where just some ideas I have to make a more fun time with defenders and a couple for attackers, if you have any other ideas feel free to reply.

i feel like its alright as is because when defense is actually stronger than attackers it just feels shit for everyone

Usually when outnumbered but I mean when attack just feels hopeless and defense is like smashing your head against a wall

And also like if defense is too strong games will end prematurely

I feel like attack should win if the 2 teams are balanced just so the maps actually progress and the game isn't stale

I think the inherent problem is the game mode. The whole point of TO means the attackers should have the advantage to the end objective all things being equal... A better solution would be to create a different game mode where many points on a map need to be captured and held meaning no team has an inherent advantage to attempt to increase the length of the game. This has been said many times but TB don't seem too enthusiastic about implementing this 🤷‍♂️
