there are ashigaru (hired soldiers) , samurai, wokou (pirate), sohei (buddhist warrior monks)

it depends on the time period, firearms were introduced in japan from the Portuguese around 1400-1500, but the ashigaru have been around since 300s

I feel like the 1400s-1500s would probably be the most logical period to make a Samurai-themed Chivalry game, since the Sengoku period is possibly the most well-known conflict.

Though, if we do see a musket, would it function like a 2H spear w/ the inaccurate ranged attack being a standing special? (Stab/slash for bayonet thrust, overhead for overhead)

It'd definitely suck if projectile spread screws up a shot and a vanguard is gonna sprint attack you because muskets take forever and a day to reload

during the 15th century there were real swords around that size, the blade's a bit wide on the highland sword but the length and the way it's used are actually pretty accurate

only real issue with it is the blade being big and fat but if they changed that it'd look too similar to the greatsword

but we can have those as skins in game

long story short, you could very easily justify putting 15th century samurai/an east-asia faction in chiv2, and I'm pretty sure all the weapons could easily be reskinned although it'd probably rustle some feathers of a lot of folk

guns existed alongside fully armoured knights for hundreds of years - the term "bullet proof" literally comes from when armourers would shoot their breastplates with a pistol to "prove" it could stop a bullet, with the little mark the bullet left being the "bullet proof"

Well, I've already said my piece about how samurai won't work in the Agatha/Mason war.

The most Japanese thing that I can see being implemented would be a Wodao skin, as a legendary skin for a two-handed Jian. Which I still want implemented as a Tenosian longsword

Honestly they should get a grip on the 3 factions we already have before implementing entirely new ones. Tenosia still has hardly any cosmetics. Even the 2 main ones, agatha and mason, are kinda limited still.
I'd much rather they focus on those rather than some wild far eastern stuff.

I feel like Tenosian weapon skins could allude to the existence of an East Asian culture, since China has done trade with the middle East during medieval times.

Hell, the Fauchard and Straight Fauchard skins are basically Chinese glaives

There weren't colored knghts and super super rarely a woman knight, though this is a fantasy game, not an historical game, so the stretch is possible.

I think having nomadic mercenaries from a Mongol-like culture would be a better way to do East Asian stuff in Chiv personally. Could have Agatha, Mason, and Tenosia variants of "Eastern Mercenary" armors

reason why woman knights doesn't show up because lots of "abuse" which don't dive into details reason why they don't want do and the nobles don't want give off blood or money and it was hell crazy bs during that time which nobles fear lots discrimination back then for the face. As again, the women in the army was highly avoided because due of either woman being pregnant can cause problem in men army. It is thing we don't want repeat that history which is why men don't want see either their beloved be slain between combat discovering she was pregnant. Its better keep any more details about this in the dark because I don't know humanity ready to swallow deep truth back then what is hidden secrets what happen and things aren't recorded

The one I use to train with nowadays weighs more than this sword, and is closer to a HS shape. It’s possible, and deadly for sure.

But legitimately I cannot do so without decent effort thus far. I’m sure I’ll be there in about a year from now in my training regiment, meaning that a man who would’ve used this weapon in battle would’ve likely been used to it more than most people who don’t use it.

fun thing about sword, you can modify it to have more weight on it, just ask the blacksmith add more metal on the blade just say make the blade more heavy and that was back then history for rich ppl always ask for custom made sword by the blacksmith and it was really pain the rear to actually get the sword right for customer to be happy with because blacksmith speed weeks getting it the parts in and if it is great sword it just more the pain the rear get long and heavy in chose and if it doesn't measure up to soldier/knight/customers they say bunch bs u don't want to hear then they have to go back work another week fixing the problem. Some soldiers wanted great still but lighter so blacksmith make sure they use less metal which they don't have exact measuring scale used that is why different thickness and soldiers now made different slowly during that medieval era and also they have to correct ppl which one better sword which goodbye custom made and hello production weapons and armor. Now today, it is hard to ask for ppl get custom made sword for thickness of the blade. I in other hand own a very heavy machete in my own custom made and I make sure it is thick for good chopping stuff. Still use it today and it is good weight chopping trees still.

I have to agree, thickness is too "whammy" for I don't think anyone want to use super thick blade that is twice the thickness of battle axe is. for would like the dev nerf the thick of it and lower the to the point it look swingable and not dealing with thick as guts sword.
