#Some feedback from a new player (as well as some stuff that discouraged me from buying it)

So I've been playing because of the Free Weekend and will probably buy the game but I do have some feedback and also complaints that discouraged me from playing.

Training Grounds (what discouraged me from buying)

Whilst veteran players should be allowed to play this game mode, they should not be fighting new players in it. Rank 5s should fight no-one higher and nor should rank 10s. Beyond that though anybody should be allowed in a match. With how different this game is from others new players need a space to learn stuff but can't right now, sure they can use offline mode but I didn't know that existed before being told so (and even then you can't gain XP : / ).

Team Balancing (what also discouraged me from buying)

I've played on multiple teams filled with new players against mainly veterans and it isn't fun. Like before it's not possible to learn the game when you're always dying. This needs to be improved and more well-balanced. A Ranked Match Maker option might also fix this.

PvE Gamemode

Playing Training Grounds against AI was a lot of fun and I would like to see this expanded upon personally. A game mode without PvP but instead PvE up to 4-8 players I think could be great fun. Maybe wave defence or similar to what we have now.

Training Area

An area to test out weapons and combos on dummies and pieces of wood would be fantastic. Not much really to say here.

Short Little Videos Showing How Weapons Work Or Just In Combat

Similar to Red Alert 3 or Just Cause 3/4's weapon videos, it would just be showing the weapon in action or if it were done like Red Alert 3 a short little explanation of how it works.

Customization

I have to say I love the customization but it would be nice to see Gambesons and more Kettle Helmets. The options for helmets for the Masons are also a bit unappealing imho, though that's just my opinion and I'm sure many like them.

#

Another thing, thinking about it my suggestion for videos might actually be more well suited for the classes/sub classes as a new player it's not very clear how Vanguard and Knight are different.

A lot of the things you identify aren't news to the devs, sadly. I hope you stick around and keep with it - the game is very rewarding when you figure it out. Check out the pins in #🤺︱training-grounds if you're having trouble with the mechanics

@polar salmon you’re on pc so you should be fine

No, pc players have a massive advantage

Car games yes

Ah ok, I must've misremembered as I remember someone saying controller was easier but it must've been for car games

controllers get aim assist, which helps archers (kind of a lot, depending who you ask)

such as the quarterstaff's stamina fuckery?

Or the Ambusher's backstab zone. What counts as a backstab?

#

Because it is not just the back

so really, just expanded tutorial and far better tooltips than the ones we have in-game

#

I can see where videos could be useful, though

tough basalt
#

Yeah pretty much. I'd also like to see exact values like in Mirage. I want to know down to the milliseconds the windup/release times, the damage numbers, etc.

#

it'd be nice, there's only so much sites like polehammer.net can tell us

#

polehammer basically just goes by what they can observe via in-game testing

tough basalt
#

It's not their fault but yeah they have to deal with torn banner so...

wooden girder
#

and the range in question is limited to what's directly in front of the player

#

different weapons have different swing arcs

#

rapier is more cone-shaped, whereas war club is very rounded and sweeping

tough basalt
#

We could test range more assuredly if we could enable tracers in the console, but we can't

#

Also, regarding the quarter staff there is no information on how it works

#

Not in the changelog or in the game. I've also personally messaged multiple developers, and none of them know how it works either

#

And they don't respond to any threads here

wooden girder
#

the latter sounds like things are heavily compartmentalized

#

so not all devs are familiar with all aspects of the game

tough basalt
#

Of course

#

But as a player you have no idea who has access to what

#

So you start with the community manager

true

But then when the community manager is disinterested and neglectful, you have to move on to individual developers

team balance? one weird piece of feedback devs love trying to avoid paying attention to, then half implementing solutions to (lol at the easily exploitable team switch change)

I've been playing chivalry 2 for a while now, and I really must emphasize that there should be some way to make life easier for those just starting out.
Training Camps are the most fun way to play, however when you start and are faced with level 200 guys that don't let you take your breath it's disheartening.

Here I have a simple suggestion:

  1. Create the possibility of only modes vs bots. So who starts can be supported by more experienced players.
  2. Second suggestion would be to segment the matches every 10 levels... So the level of skill and challenge grows along with the player's experience
