#How Matchmaking Should Work

By utilizing a matchmaking system similar to other games, we can free clutter on the main page and eliminate the need to remove gamemodes from the matchmaking servers. Instead of hiding gamemodes under separate tabs, we can have every gamemode under one homepage that has more customizability, allowing players to play the game in the way they would like.

This new and improved system allows you to select individual gamemodes by checking boxes on the ones you want to play, and leaving the ones you don't want to play unchecked. **This eliminates the need for any 'Mixed Modes' queue and improves queue times **as a player can simply queue for every gamemode on both playercount types.

Example Use Case: (from the image)
I, Soter Dave, only enjoy playing 40P TO, Free For all, and 40P LTS. So I will check the boxes on Team Objective, Free For All, Last Team Standing, and 40P.

There are so many issues with the current system. Whether it be the Arena gamemodes hidden behind a second screen, TO/TDM being tied together for no good reason, multiple queues serving the same purpose, or certain gamemodes being straight up removed from the matchmaking screen for no good reason. This system would fix all of that with ease while simultaneously improving queue times for everyone. Time to do better.

and again could improve queue times by selecting regions outside your own

#

or if you're fine with bad queue times you could select only your region

brave lynx
#

Or make it so you and your friends have bearable ping when partying up, like if a NA East and NA West player want to try and queue in NA Central

finite jay
#

yeah overall this just fixes so many problems easily

Is not better to have this servers at server browser and choose the server of the gamemode you to want to play manually?

finite jay
#

so now I'll ask for this instead

short island
#

If they make only TO servers for this is ok

#

but people wants to play a gamemode or two, at same server, i think this is not functional

finite jay
#

you simply check the boxes for the gamemodes you would like to play, and then it will queue you for those gamemodes

short island
short island
#

or you want that when you finish the map you joined, the game moves you to other server with other gamemode?

short island
finite jay
#

it moves you to a new server after the game ends

short island
#

right now? you join a server and you are always at that server if you don't leave it

#

is how it works

Make the host with best ping host server like old cod

finite jay
#

If you don't believe me, check the server IP after every map switches

short island
#

mmm idk sounds weird, but is possible at matchmaking, at server browser servers is impossible then

finite jay
#

Regardless, to answer your question on how it would allow you to queue for multiple gamemodes. It just would, done

#

I'm not a programmer, but I simply want to make the suggestion to adopt a system that other games use because I know it will fix a multitude of issues

short island
#

if it would work, could be a nice system for matchmaking

finite jay
#

Yeah. I have faith in their talent at game development

#

They're an experienced studio with nearly 100 employees. They can mange it

short island
#

now we need they want to haha

This seems like a fantastic idea dave

Thanks

I suppose the only issue with how it's currently set up, is that their servers are on a more traditional "rotation". To check for multiple modes would mean you+party would have to leave and rejoin the matchmaking Queue to potentially get the other game mode, which might be undesired by people who want snappy back to back matches

brave lynx
#

But not a fine tradeoff for everyone. Some people would not want to deal with matchmaking queues and leaving servers of players they enjoyed playing against each time. Namely, players who play TO and only TO

finite jay
#

well they could change that. I already feel I shouldn't be moved to another server if I just want to play one gamemode

#

don't know why it does that

brave lynx
#

Also I imagine it would not work very smoothly with less populated regions, like Asian Servers

short island
#

they could change it

finite jay
brave lynx
#

That's a separate issue, but that doesn't mean we should ignore the issue of matchmaking reliability on significantly less populated regions. Aus, SAE, South America

finite jay
#

hopefully this would allow people to find games easier if done properly

short island
#

so matchmaking should make them join more populated regions

brave lynx
#

You ever play on high ping? Might as well quit the game then and there

rich citrus
#

what about adding a low level (under 100) and high level (over 100+) server option

short island
brave lynx
#

It's extremely unplayable at that ping difference.

short island
brave lynx
#

So yes, playing with 5 would be better.

short island
finite jay
#

eh I like more options. most of why a system like this would be good is so we could play the gamemodes we actually wanna play

#

I hate TDM. I don't like it. I never wanna play it again. All it does is serve to separate me from the love of my life, Team Objective

#

on the flipside, there are people like me who love TDM and hate TO

#

Why are we forced to play each others' gamemode?

#

I asked for the simple fix, a TO only server in the server browser. No response, no acknowledgment.

#

So this is my next suggestion, which would help me and simultaneously fix numerous issues

short island
#

i'm telling this since months ago

#

marry me bro

finite jay
#

lmao

short island
#

lets make a new world with only TO queue together

finite jay
#

haha I wish

This is what I loved about Titanfall 2 while the central servers were functioning. Being able to pick and choose what you feel like that day is great. And being able to select queuing into both 64p and 40p matches is a great idea.

I don’t know how much work this would be, or how it would effect load times. But I think it would improve matchmaking immensely. I’m in full support!

finite jay
#

I would be fine with that final suggestion you mentioned, perfectly reasonable

#

but when I asked for a TO only queue they just don't respond

#

why can I not play the flagship gamemode by itself?

#

both 64p and 40p 'Mixed Modes' is just TO and TDM

#

which means you physically cannot play TO or TDM by itself

#

There is no 'unmixed modes'

#

and yeah as you said everyone leaves or goes AFK for TDM

dull flint
#

Absolutely love this as an idea don’t know if they could pull it off to be honest but one can dream 🤞

I agree that it would be nice to be able to queue up for more than one game mode at a time. While I would love for TO & TDM to be separated, the community is too small to handle the most popular game mode being split.

Unfortunately, I don't see how suggestion wouldn't eliminate the need for a mixed queue, or reduce queue times. It seems the opposite would be the case.

How would a player be able queue to for TDM, FFA & TO without having to disconnect & requeue at the end of each match?

Are you suggesting that, for example, at the end of a TO match, players will be split up to different servers/matches based on what game modes they chose when they queued? I surely hope not, because that will just bifurcate the already tiny community, and obliterate server populations at the end of matches even more than we already see.

The unfortunate reality is, that there just aren't enough people playing Chivalry to justify anything but combining modes more. The Tenosian queue was a massive mistake, and is a prime example of the reality of splitting the community up more.

Chivalry's population needs to be 25-30 times the size to be able to constantly place players in fresh, new, populated matches anywhere on the globe, at any time, while also splitting people up into chosen queues at the end of a match. As it stands, you're lucky to find a full TO map off peak hours in populated regions, much less a fully populated TO match that's fresh.

In the end, matchmaking sucks, always has, and always will.

finite jay
#

For example, I don't want to play because I don't like team deathmatch.

#

But I'm forced to plant. I can't play team objective without playing team deathmatch

#

What do you suggest that I do? I want to play the game, but they keep throwing me in a game though that I don't enjoy. So I leave when I get team deathmatch or I go AFK

#

You're going to have problems with whatever you choose. At least with this problem, I can just choose to play in team objective by itself

severe cradle
#

Just do what i do and pretend you’re playing TDM in every match

#

i also dont understand what these other dudes logic is if they say an idea for independent matchmaking playlists dont make sense, or are impossible.

#

playlist for team deathmatch: queue in, wait for the lobby to fill-> play game. game ends->same lobby plays another. players leave? wait for new player to quee-> play game. OR game ends and you leave? queue again in different mode-> join lobby of waiting players-> play game. boom thats it
