So I have wiimmfi installed, but i haven't tried it because i don't know what it actually does. If i were to use wiimmfi on my wii, could i use the same disk on my wii u?

Wiimmfi is a replacement for Nintendo WiFi Connection in games. It brings back online multiplayer in games that supported it, such as Mario Kart Wii. It works on both the Wii and the vWii(Wii U).

right. but my wii u doesnt have that installed. so if i were to use wiimmfi on my wii, and then go to a vanilla wii u and put the same disk in, would that do anything harmful to it?

no, you just wouldn't be able to play that game online (as the Wii U's virtual Wii mode wouldn't have the patch installed)
