#Wii totally refuses to connect on Wifi (did some troubleshooting already)

Hello everyone, happy to be here. First of all, I want to state that this will be a little long explanation but the reason belongs to the fact that I did A LOT of troubleshooting before joining and asking here. At the same time I’m kinda techie and used to these soft procedures, so unless I made a very big oopsie, I feel like I’m hopeless beyond what I looked, understood and tried on my own.

Main problem (pic related): Internet Connection Error 51330/1/2. Yes I know, this means WLAN1-2-3 problems with connection between my Wii and my router.

First of all, my Wii is a PAL one with updated 4.3 firmware. YES, it does find my wifi connection when looking for an access point. I have a double connection from the router with modern 5Ghz and a secondary one with 2.4Ghz. It can also open “GUEST” ones for both. Going on, I’m aware that the Wii is a 2006 old system and can get 2.4Ghz wifi only (when not being picky), but it still can recognize the WPA-2(AES) key, contrary to DS which sees only WEP as an example. Moreover, YES, I always double check my password and silly slips like these are not the problem here. I tried too many times to just fall for those, I literally learned by heart the DNS numbers for Wiimmfi and Riiconnect24. Also, I changed the settings to the so-called “legacy frequencies” with older standards like 802.11 b/g (my router settings luckily allow that), changed the channel to automode (mostly it goes 1 or 11) and have no filters on (like MAC).

It STILL refuses to connect.

On the total opposite side of this hell of a trial: mobile hotspot from my phone (Android) went smooth since first try. It frustrated me so much. You see though, I cannot use the hotspot as the main connection method, because I don’t have infinite data and I could not use it for longer playing sessions like on MKWii.

Additional info: Yes, my Wii has been homebrewed. And unfortunately, I can’t settle for a lan connection because my Wii is in another room from the router, but I already tried to connect it with at a closer distance. Still nothing.

Despite all of this, I really went mental after today. Please, I kindly and humbly ask for help. Hope everything shows an already in-depth situation. Any suggestions for this obstinate behavior?

Error for error 513yy: WLAN connection to access point failed.
Solution for error 513yy: Check WLAN settings at console and access point (router).

# royal bison Have you tried mixed b/g/n mode?

Yes, at least once. If I'm not mistaken, it was the last option I tried out of those containing both b and g (I can check it again tomorrow), because only b would be too old and over "n" isn't captured by the Wii

Im not sure. Try picking a channel just in case

random panther
#

If i recall correctly, I found it on 6 by default and then tried 1 or 11 as selected, then set it on auto and the network got either one of those on its own

@random panther what WPA is it?

#

Because WPA-2 is the highest you can do

I haven't used it in a while but if I remember correctly my Wii didn't get internet if it connected to my range extender for no apparent reason, it just didn't like it. So definitely try turning them off temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

#

It had the same SSID as the main network but I was able to block the Wii from connecting to it in its settings

Oh my bad

#

In that case I suppose you could try using one. It's not like they're not supposed to work with the Wii, it just didn't for me

#

What does the Wii say the signal is like?

Setting them up might actually make a difference

hello, i had the same issue, for fixing this problem you need to change your wifi modem, my was too new and couldn't connect becouse of that, i tryed lot of things but i didn't resolved, lot of people on the internet said that using the wifi lan wii adapter could fix this problem

#

so change your modem or take a wii adapter

he is my friend and we tried everything

#

a bypass is using windows 7 ad hoc internet with wep

#

@royal bison i think the problem is more different here, the wii seems to have trouble connecting to some "new" gateway / routers even with 802.11B band, different channel, and older encryption

#

i think we should look into it

#

i might make him connect to a http proxy to check, in the end the wii just does a simple request to a webpage to test connection

#

if it connects to the proxy then it's some bug in the wii wifi

random panther
# elfin fable Yes as <@490486031334768642> said you need to change the modem (gateway) or add ...

Thank you for your confirmation then sadd .

As an update to all of this: well, I'll try to examine in depth the secondary (and less powerful) router option. It might be a choice even for a personal future.

On a brighter side tho, I may have just found an easier way to get it done even with the LAN side: since I have actually remembered that I do own 2 ethernet wall jacks in my room, I may get around with the second one (currently unused) or still keeping the main one despite it requiring a switch ethernet port to connect multiple devices like my pc, the Wii and so on. Maybe too much cable management (eheh reggie ), but I would still sort things out with this.

Anyway, unfortunate for the Wii to age like this with Wifi compatibility but that's also what it's making me feel unsure about the future progress of its retired life... Like, if already now it can make these kind of fails with advanced 2.4Ghz and we cannot even talk about 5Ghz for many other systems as today, what will happen when 2.4Ghz will be totally "outdated"?

jonny mi ha consigliato di prendere questo

#

speriamo funziona

@random panther

#

ma la tua foto è quella del nuovo gioco di mario che deve uscire?

#

mi pare di averlo visto al nintendo direct

MA NON MI ASPETTAVO STO TURNING POINT IN ITALIANO HAHAHAHAHAHA

# past zinc speriamo funziona

#

comunque che compagnia hai per la connessione?

Btw dear @royal bison (or any other helper), I politely ask to not close the thread yet please, since there are going to be upcoming updates regarding the LAN port adapter and other possible outcomes. Me and Xulu discovered that we have the same network and provider (lmao), therefore we can keep the discussion a little bit longer to compare settings and stuff

random panther
#

Update‼️: as of today I was able to buy and receive the LAN adaptor and it worked smoothly. The Wii just went 10-20 seconds for the test connection and got it without flaws. Just tried 10 mins ago (both with a channel and an online game).

Thank you @royal bison for specific the suggestion about it.

Thank you also all for the whole helping feedback CMOCPopular . I still feel kind bummed about this incompatibility with the wifi reception but at least there's another chance and way to get around of it.

I hope this news will find @past zinc happy and relieved too :))

quale hai usato?

lo stesso che ti avevo mandato io o un'altro?

Quelli della stessa compagnia (UGreen) ma più avanzati non sono compatibili con Wii e WiiU

@royal bison Dear friend, you can now close the thread. Thank you for the patience.

Also thank you everyone in here for discussing and helping about possible resolutions 🙏 Wii

#

Because ipv6 by itself is not compatible

#

You don’t have to try it since you already got lan to work, but just a suggestion

elfin fable
#

i think it's just incompatible (or there is something else we are missing)

#

but as far of the modem settings, those are all, there isn't anything else changable (except upnp, dmz, mac filtering and some usb share)

Best solution is Wi-Fi extender imo

elfin fable
# dim creek Best solution is Wi-Fi extender imo

depends on the price, and it must support this broadcasting mode, for 13 / 15€ i think it's better to buy that third party LAN adapter (confirmed working by my friend and many people here)
