#Wii unable to connect to internet, freezing on Connecting Test

I’ve just modded a second Wii after the first completely bricked due to Homebrew Browser creating files with a date of Jan 1st 1970. Not even Boot2 worked so I had no choice but to mod another spare one my Dad has.

Same original model this time but slightly newer so no Boot 2. Things otherwise went as expected until I reached the Homebrew Browser again.

It wouldn’t boot. After adding it, the Wii froze when loading up the Homebrew Channel. After a reset it loaded but the browser itself hung on initialising the network, and then crashed when it began to exit.

Noticed Wi-Fi wasn’t connecting in the Homebrew Channel, which is odd as I’d set the connection up earlier without issue. I tried running a new connection test and… it froze.

Completely froze. Audio continued underneath but the visuals were frozen, it wouldn’t even turn off unless I held down the button.

I have no idea what to do. I don’t wanna brick yet another Wii and I have no idea how to get around this issue. Saw a post on GBA Temp about the same issue from 8 years ago but it had no responses.

If anybody has any idea what to do, please let me know because I am really desperate to get this working right. I’ve already let my Dad down once on this and I don’t wanna mess up our only other Wii 🥺

# rare widget what happened that you say you bricked your first wii

I opened the Homebrew Browser for the first time and it took a while to initialise. Said “aborting” but then loaded anyway.

I downloaded WiiSXRX and soon after it froze. Turned the Wii on and off again, started to load up and then just froze.

After that, nothing happens when you turn it on. I’d disabled Boot2 by renaming the folder (something recommended on the subreddit), as editing the .ini file didn’t skip it on booting.

I renamed the folder back but it still didn’t work. PriiLoader didn’t work either. Somehow I managed to brick a supposedly brick-proof Wii, and afaik there’s no way to fix it 😔

Oh well, the official BootMii FAQ said to change the delay to “0” in the .ini file, so afaik that was the way to do it :T

I can recover the original but I already edited the file back to how it was before so I don’t think it’s that, since the file is essentially unchanged.

Put your sd card into your computer and delete the homebrew browser

#

It may be screwing up the system

#

Also btw the aborting thing happened to me too (on every wii I modded)

Thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely give this a try tomorrow morning.

Hopefully there’s still a way to get the Homebrew Browser and have it work though, that’s what I really need the internet for tbh :/

I’d do it all manually through my computer but I’m leaving my dad’s place on Thursday so I’m kinda pressed for time, so I wanna get as much modded for him as I can.
