Well, the story is that a family member recently purchased a modded Wii and has been able to use it with no issue to it's full extent. Now I want to attempt to do it myself with our old Wii and see if I can get the same result as the purchased modded Wii. Yet I've no idea where to start, I was trying to get around with the guides but to no avail it's beyond my knowledge. I want to learn how to so would anyone help me out? Might learn how to Homebrew my own DSI but that'd be getting ahead of myself already.

That's correct

Most of my issues are coming from not knowing what does what, and how does "x" thing works. So really, all I've done is download some applications according to the guides on my USB.

Using HDDs as holders for Homebrew apps aren't really recommended, as they're really just meant for storing Wii/GameCube games. SD Cards are recommended for holding Homebrew apps since Homebrew apps don't really take that much space while HDDs have a lot of space for games and such. HDDs can be used for Homebrew apps but don't really have much benefits as an SD Card would. If you need recommendations, here are 2 SD Cards that will assist you here.

Okay, so from what I've seen during the day, SD cards for the "Homebrew" apps. And the USB drive for game storage?
